The 39th District of the Iowa Senate is located in southeastern Iowa, and is currently composed of Johnson County, Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk County, Iowa, Keokuk, and Washington County, Iowa, Washington Counties. Joe Bolkcom
Joseph Bolkcom (born July 29, 1956) is a member of the Iowa Senate. A Democrat, he was first elected to the Senate in 1998. He represents the 43rd District of the General Assembly, which includes most of metropolitan Iowa City. Bolkcom currently serves on several committees in the Iowa Senate. Bolkcom was reelected in 2002. In the 2006 General Election he won 78% of the vote (14,816 votes). His only opponent was Jay Christensen-Szalanski, an independent, who received 22%. Bolkcom graduated from Saint Ambrose University in Davenport in 1983. He went on to earn a master's degree in Public Affairs from the University of Iowa. He served from 1993 to 1998 on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. Prior to that he worked for Johnson County Health Department, Senior Advocates, Inc., and Senior Education, Inc. David Lord (politician)
David George Lord (December 4, 1934 – July 26, 2005) was an American politician. David Lord was born on a farm in Madison County, near Lorimor, Iowa, on December 4, 1934, to parents Colin Wilfred and Vera Robinett Lord, and educated in a one-room schoolhouse until the eighth grade. Upon graduating from Winterset High School of Winterset, Iowa, in 1953, Lord pursued a bachelor's degree in education from Iowa State University. Lord served for 21 years in the Iowa National Guard, and later moved to Perry, Iowa, where he owned the Lord's Men and Boys Clothing Store and the Four-Seasons Car Wash and Mini-Storage for 25 and 26 years, respectively. Jo Ann M. Johnson (born April 24, 1949) is an American politician. Jo Ann Dinkla was born to parents Elmer and Arlene Dinkla in Massena, Iowa, on April 24, 1949. Her younger brother is Dwight Dinkla. Jo Ann Dinkla graduated from Adair-Casey High School in 1967, and earned a bachelor of arts in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971. That year, she married Craig Douglas, with whom she raised a daughter and a son. Jo Ann Douglas worked as a farmer, teacher and coach, served on the Adair-Casey school board and the Adair County Republican Central Committee, and was a member of Jim Ross Lightfoot's campaign staff from 1984 to 1990. James Richard Riordan II (December 31, 1949 – August 14, 2022) was an American politician. Personal life Born in December 1949, James Richard Riordan II was the eldest of five children born to parents James Richard Riordan I and his wife Therese. The family lived on a farm near Boone, Iowa, and Riordan II graduated from the city's Ryan High School in 1968. Shortly after earning his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in 1975, Riordan married Rhoda Quade, with whom he raised three children. The couple separated in 2015. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
Mariannette Jane Miller-Meeks (born September 6, 1955) is an American physician and politician serving as the U.S. representative from Iowa's 2nd congressional district since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Miller-Meeks served as Iowa state senator for the 41st district from 2019 to 2021. Her district includes most of Iowa's southeastern quadrant, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Burlington, Iowa City, and Miller-Meeks's hometown of Ottumwa.
