Heather Hora
Heather Hora (born c. 1970) is an American politician. Early life Born in Riverside, Iowa, near Iowa City, Hora spent a portion of her childhood in Minneapolis, before returning to complete her secondary education in the Highland Community School District. She and her husband Kurt own H. K. Farms, near Washington, Iowa, which has been a family-owned farm for five generations. Political career Hora was a Republican Party candidate for District 39 of the Iowa Senate in the 2018 election, losing to Kevin Kinney. Hora began campaigning for the District 92 seat of the Iowa House of Representatives in April 2022. She defeated Washington mayor Jaron Rosien in the June 2022 Republican Party primary. Iowa General Assembly
The Iowa General Assembly is the legislative branch of the state government of Iowa. Like the federal United States Congress, the General Assembly is a bicameral body, composed of the upper house Iowa Senate and the lower Iowa House of Representatives respectively. The Senate consists of four year terms and the House consists of two year terms. The General Assembly convenes within the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Composition The Iowa General Assembly consists of 50 senators and 100 representatives. Each senator represents about 60,927 people and each representative about 30,464 people . The Iowa House of Representatives is the lower house of the Iowa General Assembly, the upper house being the Iowa Senate. There are 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing 100 single-member districts across the state, formed by dividing the 50 Senate districts in half. Each district has a population of approximately 30,464 . The House of Representatives meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Unlike the upper house, the Iowa Senate, state House representatives serve two-year terms with the whole chamber up for re-election in even-numbered years. There are no term limits for the House. Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,565. The county seat is Washington. Washington County is included in the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Washington County was originally formed in 1838 as Slaughter County in honor of William B. Slaughter, the secretary of Wisconsin Territory. The county, still named Slaughter County, became part of Iowa Territory on July 4, 1838, when it was organized. To honor George Washington, the county opted to change its name on January 25, 1839. The first settlers arrived in Washington County in 1835. The homesteads did not start until 1836. Johnson County is located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 152,854, making it the fourth-most populous county in Iowa. The county seat is Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa. James Middleswart
James Ira Middleswart (April 8, 1912 – August 5, 1993) was an American politician. James Middleswart was born to parents David and Eva Morgan Middleswart in Indianola, Iowa, on April 8, 1912. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1930, studied business at Simpson College until 1932, and subsequently became a farmer. Middleswart was a soil district commissioner and district secretary before winning his first election to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1966. Middleswart held the District 27 seat for two terms, won reelection in District 92 in 1970, and occupied the District 93 seat from 1973 to 1979. Keith A. Kreiman (born June 28, 1954) is an American politician who served as an Iowa State Senator from the 47th District from 2003 to 2011. He received his AA from Ellsworth Community College, his BA from Seattle University, and his JD from the University of Iowa College of Law. He works as an attorney in private practice. Kreiman served on several committees in the Iowa Senate - the Education committee; the Human Resources committee; the Local Government committee; and the Judiciary committee, where he is chair.
