Ion Timofte
Ion Timofte (born 16 December 1967) is a Romanian retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He spent the vast majority of his career in Portugal, amassing Primeira Liga totals of 215 matches and 61 goals over nine seasons with Porto and Boavista and winning seven major titles both clubs combined. Club career Early years / Porto Timofte was born in Anina, and started playing with local Minerul before signing with Liga II club CSM Reşiţa in early 1989. He made his debut in Liga I with FC Politehnica Timișoara after joining them in the summer, notably helping his team oust Atlético Madrid in the first round of the 1990–91 UEFA Cup by playing 175 minutes of a possible 180 in a 2–1 aggregate win. In July 1991, Timofte moved to FC Porto. He made his Primeira Liga debut on 24 August, scoring the first goal in a 2–0 away triumph against G.D. Estoril Praia. Anina
Anina (; German: ''Steierdorf''; Hungarian: ''Stájerlakanina'') is a town in the Banat region of Romania, in Caraș-Severin County, with a population of 10,886 in 2000. The town administers one village, Steierdorf (German: ''Steierdorf'', Hungarian: ''Stájerlak''). Geology In 2002, the oldest modern human remains in Europe were discovered in a cave near Anina. Nicknamed ''"Ion din Anina"'' (John of Anina), the remains (the lower jaw) are some 40,000 years old. Penalty Kick (association Football)
A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Florin Răducioiu
Florin Valeriu Răducioiu (born 17 March 1970) is a Romanian former football striker, who played for Dinamo București, A.C. Milan, Brescia Calcio, West Ham United, RCD Espanyol, VfB Stuttgart and AS Monaco. He played for Romania at the 1990 FIFA World Cup hosted by Italy, the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, and England's UEFA Euro 1996. Club career Răducioiu was a product of Dinamo București. In association football, a substitute is a player who is brought on to the pitch during a match in exchange for an existing player. Substitutions are generally made to replace a player who has become tired or injured, or who is performing poorly, or for tactical reasons (such as bringing a striker on in place of a defender). A player who has been substituted during a match takes no further part in the game, in games played under the standard International Football Association Board Laws of the Game. Substitutions were officially added to the Laws of the Game in 1958. Prior to this most games were played with no changes permitted at all, with occasional exceptions in cases of extreme injury or players not arriving to matches on time. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. ''Record'' is a Portuguese sports newspaper, founded by Manuel Dias, published in Lisbon. Although it covers most sports, football is the focal point of it, and almost always is the only sport referred to on the cover. History and profile ''Record'' was founded by Manuel Dias. In association football, an assist is a contribution by a player which helps to score a goal. Statistics for assists made by players may be kept officially by the organisers of a competition, or unofficially by, for example, journalists or organisers of fantasy football competitions. Recording assists is not part of the official Laws of the Game and the criteria for an assist to be awarded may vary. Record of assists was virtually not kept at all until the end of the 20th century, although reports of matches commonly described a player as having "made" one or more goals.
