Ion Jalea
Ion Jalea (; 19 May 1887 – 7 November 1983) was a Romanian sculptor, medallist, titular member of the Romanian Academy. Biography Artistic studies Jalea was born on 19 May 1887 in the little town of Casimcea, Tulcea County. His family moved in 1893 to Ciocârlia de Jos village, from where he went on to the Mircea cel Bătrân High School in Constanța. He then studied at the ''School of Arts and Crafts'' (in Romanian, ''Școala de Arte și Meserii'') and from 1909 at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, where he was the pupil of the renowned Romanian sculptors Frederic Storck and Dimitrie Paciurea. His first personal exhibit occurred in May 1915. Starting in 1916, his artistic education was pursued in Paris at the Académie Julian. Casimcea
Casimcea is a commune in Tulcea County, Northern Dobruja, Romania. It is composed of six villages: Casimcea, Cișmeaua Nouă (historical name: ''Ramazanchioi''), Corugea, Haidar, Rahman and Războieni (historical name: ''Alifacâ''). The commune also included the village of Stânca (historical name: ''Mahomencea''), located at , which is currently deserted. The name of the commune is of Turkish origin, being derived from the word ''Kasım'', itself from the Arabic ''Qasim'', "one who distributes". Medallist
A medalist (or medallist) is an artist who designs medals, plaquettes, badges, metal medallions, coins and similar small works in relief in metal. Historically, medalists were typically also involved in producing their designs, and were usually either sculptors or goldsmiths by background. In modern times, medalists are mostly primarily sculptors of larger works, but in the past the number of medals and coins produced were sufficient to support specialists who spent most of their career producing them. François Auguste René Rodin (12 November 184017 November 1917) was a French sculptor, generally considered the founder of modern sculpture. He was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman-like approach to his work. Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay. He is known for such sculptures as '' The Thinker'', '' Monument to Balzac'', '' The Kiss'', '' The Burghers of Calais'', and '' The Gates of Hell''. Dimitrie Paciurea
Dimitrie Paciurea (; 2 November (1873 or 1875) – 14 July 1932) was a Romanian sculptor. His representational and symbolic style contrasts strongly to the more abstract style of his contemporary and co-national Constantin Brâncuși. Frederic Storck
Frederic Storck (19 January 1872, Bucharest – 26 December 1942, Bucharest) was a Romanian sculptor. His father was the sculptor Karl Storck. His brother, Carol Storck, was also a sculptor and his wife, Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck was a painter. Life and work He studied at the Bucharest National University of Arts under Professor Ion Georgescu, then pursued further studies in Munich. Later, he became a Professor at the University of Arts himself and, together with Nicolae Vermont, Ștefan Luchian and others, was one of the founding members of "Tinerimea artistică" (Artistic Youth), a society devoted to Realism; drawing its inspiration from the lives of ordinary people.
