Inuvik Twin Lakes
Inuvik Twin Lakes is a territorial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is one of two districts that represent Inuvik, alongside the district of Inuvik Boot Lake. Lesa Semmler is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 2019 election. She represents the electoral district of Inuvik Twin Lakes. Prior to her election to the legislature, she worked for the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation as their Health Navigator working on numerous health files at the local regional and national level. She was the Nurse manager prior to her work with IRC at the Inuvik Regional Hospital. Glenna F. Hansen (born August 10, 1956) is an Inuvialuit Canadian politician. She served as the commissioner of the Northwest Territories from March 31, 2000, to April 29, 2005. Early life Born in Aklavik, Northwest Territories, Canada, Hansen joined David Storr and Sons Contracting Ltd., in 1991 as an executive assistant. As of 2004, she is general manager of David Storr and Sons Contracting Ltd., a position she rose to in 1996. 1999 Northwest Territories General Election
The 1999 Northwest Territories general election was held on December 6, 1999. This was the first election under the new boundaries that were created when Nunavut was carved out of the Northwest Territories. 19 members were elected, five fewer than in the previous election. The main issues in this election were Native self-government and control over the territory's resources. On polling day, Yellowknife was caught in an extreme blizzard that cut off-road traffic and supplies. This was also the last election in Canada in the 20th century. The election was conducted under a non-partisan rules as the government operates under consensus, and Elections N.W.T. has not recognized parties since 1905. The 2011 Northwest Territories general election was held on October 3, 2011. Nineteen members were returned to the 17th Legislative Assembly from single member districts conducted under first-past-the-post voting system. The territory operates on a consensus government system with no political parties; the premier is subsequently chosen by and from the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). The 2019 Northwest Territories general election was held on October 1, 2019. Nineteen members were elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. Election On September 6, 2019, Premier Bob McLeod announced that he would not seek re-election. Roger T. Allen (born 5 May 1952 ) in Aklavik, Northwest Territories, from Gwich'in First Nations, is a Canadian former cross-country skier who competed in the 1972 Winter Olympics and a former territorial-level politician from Northwest Territories, Canada. Cross-country skiing Allen was one of six of eight cross-country skiers sent to the 1972 Olympics who came from the Mackenzie Delta town of Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Allen finished 50th in the 15 km men's and 13th in the relay 4x10 men's races. Roger was part of the Territorial Experimental Ski Training Program at Grollier Hall (Residential School). Growing up, Allen was exposed to multiple sports in the parochial school system in Inuvik which helped him balance education, sport, and spirituality.
