Intrigue And Love (film)
''Intrigue and Love'' (german: Kabale und Liebe) is a 1959 East German historical drama film directed by Martin Hellberg and starring Wolf Kaiser, Otto Mellies and Marion Van de Kamp.Goble p. 483 The film was made by the East German state-owned DEFA studio. It is an adaptation of Friedrich Schiller's 1784 play ''Intrigue and Love''. The film's sets were designed by the art director Harald Horn. Plot Ferdinand is an army major and son of President von Walter, while Luise Miller is the daughter of a middle-class musician. They fall in love with each other, but both their fathers urge them to end the affair. Martin Hellberg
Martin Hellberg (also known as Martin Heinrich, 31 January 1905 – 31 October 1999) was a German actor, director and writer. Life Martin Hellberg was born in 1905 in Dresden, Saxony, Germany, as a son of a pastor. From 1922 to 1924, Martin Hellberg studied at the ''Dresdner Konservatorium''. He was a pupil of the director Georg Kiesau. In 1931 he joined the Communist Party (KPD). From 1924 until 1933, he worked at the ''Staatlichen Schauspielhaus Dresden'' (theater). However, he was fired by the Nazis in 1933. He first worked as a freelance director and then became a senior director in Freiburg im Breisgau. Afterwards, the Nazis forbade him to appear on stage again. In 1935, Hellberg made his first appearance as a film actor in ''Die blonde Carmen''. Horst Fritz Otto Giese (31 January 1926 – 29 December 2008) was an East German actor. Biography In 1945, Giese made his debut on stage at his native Neuruppin, then in the Soviet occupation zone. Later he appeared on television. His first role in a movie was at the 1954 ''Alarm in the Circus'' (''Alarm in Zirkus''). He performed in some 50 films and television productions, and is known for his portrayals of Joseph Goebbels in several films, including in the five-part series ''Liberation'', film ''Soldiers of Freedom'', the two-part Bulgarian production ''Anvil or Hammer'' and in the Czechoslovak comedy ''Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea''.
