Internationale Händel-Akademie
The Internationale Händel-Akademie in Karlsruhe is one of the institutions dedicated to the cultivation of the work of Baroque composer George Frideric Handel and his time. Since 1986, parallel to the Karlsruhe Handel Festival, the international Handel Festival Karlsruhe of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe offers master classes in historical performance practice and a scientific symposium. Again and again, lecturers and courses at the Academy provided important impulses for the performance practice of the Festival. For example, the director gave gesture courses in historical performance practice before her directorial work in the context of the successes with ''Lotario'' and especially with ''Radamisto'' gesture courses in the International Handel Academy. Baroque Music
Baroque music ( or ) refers to the period or dominant style of Western classical music composed from about 1600 to 1750. The Baroque style followed the Renaissance period, and was followed in turn by the Classical period after a short transition, the galant style. The Baroque period is divided into three major phases: early, middle, and late. Overlapping in time, they are conventionally dated from 1580 to 1650, from 1630 to 1700, and from 1680 to 1750. Baroque music forms a major portion of the "classical music" canon, and is now widely studied, performed, and listened to. Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe
The Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe is a theatre and opera house in Karlsruhe, Germany. It has existed in its present form and place at Ettlinger Tor since 1975. Achim Thorwald became the Intendant in summer 2002 and held that post until the end of the 2010/11 season. Peter Spuhler succeeded him at the beginning of the 2011/12 season and continues to serve in that post. The Staatstheater is a ''Dreisparten'' venue, housing three performance genres: musical theatre, ballet and theatre, as well as the studio stage in Karlstraße. Historically informed performance (also referred to as period performance, authentic performance, or HIP) is an approach to the performance of classical music, which aims to be faithful to the approach, manner and style of the musical era in which a work was originally conceived. It is based on two key aspects: the application of the stylistic and technical aspects of performance, known as performance practice; and the use of period instruments which may be reproductions of historical instruments that were in use at the time of the original composition, and which usually have different timbre and temperament from their modern equivalents. ''Lotario'' ("Lothair", HWV 26) is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel. The Italian-language libretto was adapted from Antonio Salvi's '' Adelaide''.The opera was first given at the King's Theatre in London on 2 December 1729. The story of the opera is a fictionalisation of some events in the life of Holy Roman Empress Adelaide of Italy. Performance history Paolo Rolli commented in a letter at the time to Giuseppe Riva that "everyone thinks (''Lotario'') a very bad opera". There were 10 performances, but it was not repeated. Handel reused pieces in later operas. ''Radamisto '' ( HWV 12) is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel to an Italian libretto by Nicola Francesco Haym, based on ''L'amor tirannico, o Zenobia'' by Domenico Lalli and ''Zenobia'' by Matteo Noris. It was Handel's first opera for the Royal Academy of Music. The opera's plot is loosely based on incidents from Tacitus's '' Annals of Imperial Rome''. Thomas Seedorf
Thomas Seedorf (born 1960) is a German musicologist and university lecturer. Life Born in Bremerhaven, Seedorf studied school music, Germanistics and literature at Leibniz University Hannover.
