International Invitational Wushu Championships
The International Invitational Wushu Championships, also known as the International Wushu Festivals, were a series of international wushu competitions held from 1985 until the formation of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) in 1990. These competitions were the first international wushu competitions to exist which proceeded the World Wushu Championships which started in 1991. Championships History In 1982, the General Administration of Sport of China officially proclaimed that wushu practitioners had a duty 'to promote wushu to the world' with the ultimate goal of wushu becoming an official event at the Olympic Games. Later that year, the Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) hosted a small-scale international wushu tournament. A year later in 1983, Beijing won the bid to host the 1990 Asian Games, the first international multi-sport event to occur in China, and thus there was a greater incentive to internationalize wushu. Chinese Wushu Association
The Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) is the governing body of wushu in all of its forms throughout China. Since its founding in 1958, it has been credited with the development and standardization of modern wushu and sanda throughout the world. History The Central Guoshu Institute was created in 1928 by the Kuomintang as a means of standardizing the practice of wushu throughout China. It closed in 1948 due to a lack of funding. In 1958 under the Chinese Communist Party, the Chinese Wushu Association was founded in Beijing. The first chairman was Li Menghua. That year, the first National Games of China was held and wushu was an official event. The General Administration of Sport () is the government agency responsible for sports in mainland China. It is subordinate to the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Wushu At The 1990 Asian Games ...
Wushu was contested by both men and women at the 1990 Asian Games in Haidian Gymnasium, Beijing, China from September 29 to October 4, 1990. The wushu competition consisted of three events: ''Changquan'', ''Nanquan'' and ''Taijiquan'', for both genders. The changquan combined event consisted of changquan, one long weapon discipline, and one short weapon discipline. The competition attracted 96 competitors from 11 nations. Asian Wushu Championships
The Asian Wushu Championships is a continental wushu championship hosted by the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), the official continental representative to the International Wushu Federation. The competition is open to the 37 member nations of the WFA and their respective national teams. Unlike other continental wushu competitions which are held every two years, the Asian Wushu Championships is held every four years to make way for wushu at the Asian Games. The WFA also hosts the Asian Junior Wushu Championships, Asian Kungfu Championships, and the Asian Sanda Cup. 1990 Asian Games
The 1990 Asian Games also known as the XI Asiad and the 11th Asian Games ( zh, c=第十一届亚洲运动会, p=Dì shíyī jiè yàzhōu yùndònghuì), were held from September 22 to October 7, 1990, in Beijing, China. This was the first Asian Games held in China. Along the 1993 East Asian Games. This event served as a precursor to China's further development in the sporting arena, as before the country went on to bid for the 2000 Summer Olympics (losing to Sydney) in 1993 and eventually won the bid for the 2001 Summer Universiade in 1997 and the 2008 Summer Olympics in 2001 and the bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics in 2015.
