The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is a privately held non-profit organization in the United States founded by Ismail al-Faruqi and Anwar Ibrahim. It was established as a non-profit 501(c)(3) non-denominational organization in Pennsylvania in 1981, and its headquarters are in Herndon, Virginia, within the suburbs around Washington, DC. The stated objective of the group is to focus on conducting research in advancing education in Muslim societies and the publication, translation and teaching of the work through various means, with "the objectives of revival and reform of Islamic thought." Herndon is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area of the United States. The population was 23,292 at the 2010 census. Ismail Al-Faruqi
Ismaʻīl Rājī al-Fārūqī ( ar, إسماعيل راجي الفاروقي January 1, 1921 – May 27, 1986) was a Palestinian-American philosopher. He spent several years at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, then taught at several universities in North America, including McGill University in Montreal. He was Professor of Religion at Temple University, where he founded and chaired the Islamic Studies program. Al-Faruqi was also the founder of the International Institute of Islamic Thought. He wrote over 100 articles for various scholarly journals and magazines in addition to 25 books, of the most notable being ''Christian Ethics: A Historical and Systematic Analysis of Its Dominant Ideas''. The Holy Land Foundation (HLF) was the largest Islamic charity in the United States. Headquartered in Richardson, Texas, and run by Palestinian-Americans, it was originally known as Occupied Land Fund. The organization's mission was to "find and implement practical solutions for human suffering through humanitarian programs that impact the lives of the disadvantaged, disinherited, and displaced peoples suffering from man-made and natural disasters." Mahmoud Abu-Saud
Mahmoud Abu-Saud (1911 – April 24, 1993), was an economist, author, religious scholar and activist. A specialist in central banking, he was instrumental in establishing central banks and currency regulation in a number of countries including Kuwait and Afghanistan. He was a co-founder of the American Muslim Council. Life Abu-Saud was born in 1911 in Sudan to Egyptian parents. He later lived in Panama City, Florida. He died of a heart attack on April 24, 1993 in Birmingham while on a speaking tour in England. Taha Jabir Alalwani
Taha Jabir Al-Alwani (طه جابر علواني), Ph.D. (1935 – March 4, 2016), was the President of Cordoba University in Ashburn, Virginia, United States. He also held the Imam Al-Shafi'i Chair in the Islamic Legal Theory at The Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences at Corboda University. Al-Alwani concentrated on the fields of Islamic legal theory, jurisprudence (fiqh), usul al-fiqh, Qur'anic sciences, and general Islamic thought.
