InterCommunity Health Network
InterCommunity Health Network (IHN) is an integrated care coordinated care organization (CCO) created by the state of Oregon in 2012 to allow for local and regional distribution and coordination of healthcare to segments of the state's population covered under the Oregon Health Plan. It was created, with the rest of the CCOs, through Oregon Senate Bill 1580. Its approximately fifty five thousand members are part of the Medicaid segment of the population of the Benton, Lincoln, and Linn counties and works with health care providers, hospitals, and local community groups to integrate healthcare services and contain cost increases through improved quality of care. Benton County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 95,184. Its county seat is Corvallis. The county was named after Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator who advocated American control over the Oregon Country. Lincoln County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, its population was 50,395. The county seat is Newport. The county is named for Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States. Lincoln County includes the Newport, Oregon Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Samaritan Health Services (SHS) is a non-profit, integrated delivery healthcare system consisting of five hospitals in Oregon and is headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon. Operations SHS operates five hospitals and has over five hundred employed providers in Oregon. Oregon Health Plan
The Oregon Health Plan is Oregon's state Medicaid program. It is overseen by the Oregon Health Authority. History The Oregon Health Plan was conceived and realized in 1993 by emergency room doctor (and subsequent Oregon governor) John Kitzhaber, then a state senator, and Dr. Ralph Crawshaw, a Portland activist. It was intended to make health care more available to the working poor, while rationing benefits. During the 1990s, Oregon was considered a national leader in health care reform. The law passed in Oregon was not initially compatible with federal law, so a waiver was needed. President Bill Clinton approved the plan on March 20, 1993, though he required a revision to the plan due to a concern about whether disabled people would have equal access. Oregon Senate
The Oregon State Senate is the upper house of the statewide legislature for the US state of Oregon. Medicaid
Medicaid in the United States is a federal and state program that helps with healthcare costs for some people with limited income and resources. Medicaid also offers benefits not normally covered by Medicare, including nursing home care and personal care services. The main difference between the two programs is that Medicaid covers healthcare costs for people with low incomes while Medicare provides health coverage for the elderly.
