Institute Of The Regions Of Europe
The Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE) (german: Institut der Regionen Europas; IRE) is a scientific institute located in Salzburg (Austria) and was founded on 21 December 2004 by Univ. Prof. Dr. Franz Schausberger, former governour of the Land Salzburg. The Institute is part of the Institute of European Regions (non-profit) private foundation, which was founded in autumn 2004. Purpose The main aim of the foundation was to create a supranational and non - partisan body, which in an enlarged Europe is dedicated to taking into account the increasing importance of regions, municipalities and enterprises. Also on the basis of the Lisbon treaty, the IRE is committed to reduce existing information deficits, to tackle problems and to try to exploit the various economic potentials of regional as well as trans-regional cooperation between the regions of Europe. Salzburg
Salzburg (, ; literally "Salt-Castle"; bar, Soizbuag, label=Bavarian language, Austro-Bavarian) is the List of cities and towns in Austria, fourth-largest city in Austria. Cultural diplomacy is a type of public diplomacy and soft power that includes the "exchange of ideas, information, art, language and other aspects of culture among nations and their peoples in order to foster mutual understanding". The purpose of cultural diplomacy is for the people of a foreign nation to develop an understanding of the nation's ideals and institutions in an effort to build broad support for economic and political goals. Susanne Riess-Passer
Susanne Riess (born 3 January 1961 in Braunau am Inn) is a former Austrian politician of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ). Career In the first government headed by Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel, which was inaugurated in 2000, she became Vice Chancellor and minister of public services and sports, representing her party in the coalition with Schüssel's Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). The Freedom Party had finished second in the 1999 election, so its leader, Jörg Haider, should have become Chancellor in any coalition with the ÖVP which finished third. However, Haider yielded to Schüssel in order to appease international opinion. Although this should have put him in line to become Vice-Chancellor, he realised he was too controversial to have any role in the government. Europe Day is a day celebrating "peace and unity in Europe" celebrated on 5 May by the Council of Europe and on 9 May by the European Union.
