Institute Of Russian Realist Art
The Institute of Russian Realist Art (IRRA) is a private institution which brings back the public and social traditions of Russian artistic patronage. The IRRA museum and exhibition centre was opened on December 1, 2011 in one of the old buildings of the former cotton-printing factory built in the "Zamoskvorechye" district of Moscow at the end of the 19th century. The IRRA art collection is widely regarded as one of the best collections of the Russian realist school of painting of the 20th century. Three floors of exhibition space totaling over 4,500 square meters offer approximately 500 works of Russian and Soviet art. Selected collection highlights Василий Д. Sergey Vasilyevich Gerasimov
Sergey Vasilyevich Gerasimov (russian: Серге́й Васи́льевич Гера́симов; in Mozhaysk, current Moscow Oblast – 20 April 1964 in Moscow) was a Soviet and Russian painter. Gerasimov was a student of artist Konstantin Korovin, and as a young artist he later went on to join the Makovets group. His early watercolors are considered masterpieces and show a tendency toward modernism that is less pronounced in his later work. In the 1920s and 1930s, he taught at the state art school Vkhutemas, and designed posters and painted works sympathetic to the new Communist government in a style later known as Socialist realism. Georgy Grigoryevich Nissky (; 21 January 1903 – 18 June 1987) was a prominent Soviet painter and a founder of the severe style. In 2019, an exhibition of his work was held at the Institute of Russian Realist Art. Biography Nessky was born in the family of a station feldsher at a small Novobelitsa station not far from Gomel. Boris Sergeevich Ugarov (russian: Бори́с Серге́евич Уга́ров; 6 February 1922 – 2 August 1991) was a Russian Soviet realist painter and art educator, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, who lived and worked in Leningrad.
