Institute Of Economic Studies
The Institute for Economic Studies - Europe (IES) is a Paris-based non-profit organization created in 1989. IES faculty include Tibor Machan, Douglass Rasmussen, Tom G. Palmer, Joseph Pini, Carlo Lottieri, Stephen Davies, Colin Ganley, Boudewijn Bouckaert, Randy Barnett, and Pierre Garello. Since 1989 IES-Europe is organizing summer seminars meant to explore the ideas of classical liberalism through economics, philosophy, law, history and political science. Each year the institute is gathering 30 to 40 students in countries such as Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia and Romania. Furthermore, a well-known annual event organized by IES is the Summer University in Aix-en-Provence, France, where a couple of hundreds of IES alumni and liberty lovers gather to discuss the challenges existing in their own countries with the purpose of finding solutions based on private property, individual rights and liberty. Tibor Machan
Tibor Richard Machan (; 18 March 1939 – 24 March 2016) was a Hungarian-American philosopher. A professor emeritus in the department of philosophy at Auburn University, Machan held the R. C. Hoiles Chair of Business Ethics and Free Enterprise at the Argyros School of Business & Economics at Chapman University in Orange, California until 31 December 2014. He was a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, a research fellow at the Independent Institute, an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute, and an adjunct faculty member of the Ludwig von Mises Institute. Machan was a syndicated and freelance columnist; author of more than one hundred scholarly papers and more than forty books, among them ''Why is Everyone Else Wrong?'' (Springer, 2008). Carlo Lottieri (born 6 November 1960, Brescia) is Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Verona. He holds a bachelor's degree (summa cum laude) in Philosophy from the University of Genoa, a M.A. from the ''Institut Universitaire d’Etudes Européens'' (now attached to the University of Geneva), a M.A. and a Ph.D. from the Paris-Sorbonne University. His research interests cover Philosophy of Law, Federalism, Libertarianism, political theology, Religion and Public Life, Military Ethics, Elitism, Evolutionary Theory of Law, Commons and Private Property, Modern State. Boudewijn Bouckaert
Boudewijn Bouckaert (born 21 July 1947) is a Belgian law professor, a member of the Flemish Movement, and a libertarian conservative thinker and politician. He was a Member of the Flemish Parliament for the liberal party List Dedecker. He is also a former president of the Belgian classical liberal think tanks Nova Civitas, Cassandra and Libera!. Boudewijn Bouckaert holds a PhD and teaches at the Law School of the University of Ghent, the University of Paris and the University of Aix-Marseille. Randy Barnett
Randy Evan Barnett (born February 5, 1952) is an American legal scholar. He serves as the Patrick Hotung Professor of Constitutional Law at Georgetown University, where he teaches constitutional law and contracts, and is the director of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. After graduating from Northwestern University and Harvard Law School, he tried many felony cases as a prosecutor in the Cook County States’ Attorney's Office in Chicago. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Constitutional Studies and the Bradley Prize, Barnett has been a visiting professor at Penn, Northwestern and Harvard Law School. Barnett's publications includes eleven books, more than one hundred articles and reviews, as well as numerous op-eds.
