The WBSC Asia, formerly known as, Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) is the governing body of the sport of baseball and softball in Asia. The federation is governed by the World Baseball Softball Confederation. History The birth of Baseball Federation of Asia goes back to 1954 when the 2nd Asian Games was held in Manila, Philippines. The four countries of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines organized a committee aiming at establishing Baseball Federation of Asia, and 7 May of the same year witnessed the commencement of BFA. American expatriate Charles Chick Parsons of the Philippines was elected as the first president of Baseball Federation of Asia. The BFA became inactive for eight years following the 1975 Asian Baseball Championship. At the sidelines of the FEMBA World Baseball Championship in Tokyo in 1980, the executives of BFA discussed about resuming the activity of the federation. Baseball was played at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. The Philippines national baseball team were the defending gold medalists. The games were held at the Queen Sirikit Sports Center, Pathum Thani Province; the tournament format was a single round-robin, the team with the best record winning the gold medal. Baseball at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games was held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines. Baseball will not be played in the 2012 Olympic Games. However, in 2006, the World Baseball Classic was held, and it will be staged in 2009 and four years after. Baseball traditionally is not a SEA Games official sport event but was added this edition of the SEA Games due to its popularity among the host country. This is one of the events exclusively for men. Baseball at the 2018 Asian Games was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 21 August to 1 September 2018. A total of ten teams, the most ever, competed in the competition at two competition venues in Jakarta: Gelora Bung Karno Baseball Field and Rawamangun Baseball Field. The baseball teams of Laos, Sri Lanka and hosts Indonesia made their Asian Games baseball debut. The top six ranked teams, along with the hosts Indonesia (ranked eighth), advanced to the main draw.
