India At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
India competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. It was India's 18th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. In July 2022, the Indian team of 106 men and 104 women competing in 16 sports was named. India did not compete in 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, netball and rugby sevens. Indian para-athletes competed in athletics, para powerlifting, swimming and table tennis. Hockey player Manpreet Singh and badminton athlete P. V. Sindhu served as the country's opening ceremony flagbearers. Squash player Anahat Singh became the youngest Indian athlete to compete at the Commonwealth Games at just 14 years of age. 45-year old Lawn Bowls player Sunil Bahadur was the oldest player in the contingent. Athletics At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
Athletics was one of the core sports that was held at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. As a founding sport, athletics had appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games, the recognized precursor to the Commonwealth Games. The competition was split in two parts:the four marathon events (including the wheelchair marathon) were scheduled to the day 30 July and the another 54 events were held between 2 to 7 August 2022, spread across 58 events (including 10 para athletics events). Achanta Sharath Kamal (born 12 July 1982) is an Indian professional table tennis player. He is the first Indian table tennis player ever to become ten times Senior National Champion hence breaking the record of eight-time National Champion Kamlesh Mehta. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu ( Meitei pronunciation: /sái.kʰom mi.ra.bái cə.nu/; born 8 August, 1994) is an Indian weightlifter. 27-year-old Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg to win the Gold Medal which was also India's third medal after at the ongoing CWG 2022. She won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Women's 49 kg category. Mirabai Chanu has won the World Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games. Anahat Singh (born 13 March 2008) is an Indian squash player. At the age of 14, she was the youngest athlete to represent India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. she is ranked No. 1 in Asia in the Girls U17 category.
