"In Vain" is the fourth single from Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation's seventh studio album ''Resist''. It was released worldwide via digital download and streaming on 11 January 2019. Background "In Vain" is a power ballad song written for the band's seventh studio album ''Resist.'' The track features a "down-to-earth" production and uses "softer rock stylings" and "emotionally driven lyrics" in order to achieve the new direction the band aimed for the record. The song was released as the fourth single from the album and accompanied a lyric video. Differently from the previous singles, which were all played live before the album official release, the track only started being played on tour afterwards. Despite not entering any official single sales chart, the song found airplay rotation in selected places and managed to enter airplay charts in Belgium, Czech Republic and Finland, where it stayed for ten weeks. In Vain (band)
In Vain is a progressive death metal band from Kristiansand in Norway. Their music can be described as melodic extreme metal, and it is mainly composed by their guitarist Johnar Håland. The band has released four albums, and toured Europe with Solefald in 2013 and My Silent Wake in 2010. In Vain has also played concerts in Norway, and also played at the Inferno Metal Festival in 2013. History ''Will the Sun Ever Rise?'' and ''Wounds'' (2003–2005) The band was formed by guitarist Johnar Haaland and vocalist Andreas Frigstad in 2003. They were shortly joined by keyboardist and vocalist Sindre Nedland. In 2004 they recorded their first release, a three track EP ''Will the Sun Ever Rise?''. The EP featured guest Joakim Sehl on bass guitar, while the drums were sampled. The following year, 2005, they released another EP named ''Wounds''. ''in vain'' is a 2000 composition for 24 instruments by Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas. It was premiered on October 29, 2000 by Sylvain Cambreling and the Klangforum Wien and lasts approximately 70 minutes. The piece is one of Haas' best-known works. Background and composition ''in vain'' was commissioned by the Westdeutscher Rundfunk for Sylvain Cambreling (to whom the work is dedicated) and Klangforum Wien. Haas wrote the piece in response to the rise of the far-right in Austria. The piece deals extensively with microtonality. The light levels in the hall are specified in the score; some sections of the piece are played in very bright light, and about twenty minutes are played in complete darkness.
