InDnegev Festival
InDnegev () is a music and art festival in the Negev. History The festival was first held in 2007 and has become an annual fall event at Mitzpe Gvulot, near Kibbutz Gvulot in the western Negev. The three-day festival is held during October (coinciding with the end of the Sukkot holiday) and over the years has become the main festival for independent music in Israel. Artists and ensembles that performed at the festival include Asaf Avidan, Assaf Avidan, Lola Marsh, A-WA, Ester Rada, Esther Rada, Geva Alon and Noga Erez. Negev
The Negev or Negeb (; he, הַנֶּגֶב, hanNegév; ar, ٱلنَّقَب, an-Naqab) is a desert and semidesert region of southern Israel. The region's largest city and administrative capital is Beersheba (pop. ), in the north. At its southern end is the Gulf of Aqaba and the resort city and port of Eilat. It contains several development towns, including Dimona, Arad and Mitzpe Ramon, as well as a number of small Bedouin towns, including Rahat and Tel Sheva and Lakiya. There are also several kibbutzim, including Revivim and Sde Boker; the latter became the home of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, after his retirement from politics. Independent music (also commonly known as indie music or simply indie) is music that is produced independently from commercial record labels or their subsidiaries, a process that may include an autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing. Kibbutz
A kibbutz ( he, קִבּוּץ / , lit. "gathering, clustering"; plural: kibbutzim / ) is an intentional community in Israel that was traditionally based on agriculture. The first kibbutz, established in 1909, was Degania. Today, farming has been partly supplanted by other economic branches, including industrial plants and high-tech enterprises. Kibbutzim began as utopian communities, a combination of socialism and Zionism. In recent decades, some kibbutzim have been privatized and changes have been made in the communal lifestyle. A member of a kibbutz is called a ''kibbutznik'' ( he, קִבּוּצְנִיק / ; plural ''kibbutznikim'' or ''kibbutzniks''). In 2010, there were 270 kibbutzim in Israel with population of 126,000. Gvulot
Gvulot ( he, גְּבוּלוֹת, ''lit.'' "Borders") is a kibbutz in southern Israel. Located in the north-western Negev desert, it falls under the jurisdiction of Eshkol Regional Council. In it had a population of . Gvulot is located about 120 m above sea level. History The village was established on land owned by the Jewish National Fund (JNF) on 12 May 1943 by immigrants from Romania and Turkey, who were members of the "Kibbutz Eretz Israel Gimel" group of Hashomer Hatzair, with financial assistance from Keren Hayesod. Asaf Avidan
Asaf Avidan ( he, אסף אבידן; born March 23, 1980) is a singer-songwriter from Israel. From 2006 to 2011, he was part of the group Asaf Avidan & the Mojos, independently releasing three studio albums. '' The Reckoning'', their debut record, was certified Gold in Israel and became one of the best-selling independent albums in the country. After disbanding in 2011, a 2012 remix of Asaf Avidan & the Mojos' single "Reckoning Song" (2008) by German disc jockey Wankelmut — retitled into One Day / Reckoning Song — attained widespread commercial success throughout Europe. It topped the charts in several countries and was certified Gold and Platinum. Lola Marsh
Lola Marsh ( he, לולה מארש) is an Israeli indie pop band from Tel Aviv. The band was formed as a duo in 2013 by Gil Landau (guitars, keyboards) and Yael Shoshana Cohen (vocals), and was quickly signed by the indie label Anova Music. The group released their first EP, ''You're Mine'', under Universal Records-Barclay in January 2016. History Gil Landau and Yael Shoshana Cohen met in Tel Aviv through mutual friends. The idea of the group was conceived at Landau's birthday party in February 2011, when the band members began playing songs on Landau's father's old guitar. Ester Rada ( he, אסתר רָדָא, born March 7, 1985) is an Israeli actress and singer. Biography Rada was born in Kiryat Arba, Israel, to a religious Ethiopian-Jewish family. Her parents, originally from a village near Gondar, were rescued by Israel from a refugee camp in Sudan during Operation Moses, in 1984. She grew up speaking Amharic at home and Hebrew in school. Her father was known as a cantor in the Ethiopian community in Kiryat Arba. Geva Alon
Geva Alon ( he, גבע אלון, born 30 May 1979) is an Israeli blues/ folk/rock musician and singer-songwriter. Biography Geva Alon was born and raised in Kibbutz Ma'abarot. He began playing guitar at the age of 12, and in the year 2000 became the founding member of the rock trio ''The Flying Baby'' which achieved relative success in Israel and while touring the US. The band released two albums: ''Inner World'' (2002) and ''Pain to Give'' (2004). In 2004 he joined the Israeli indie rock singer, Shy Nobleman, with whom he played for three years. Noga Erez ( he, נגה ארז) is an Israeli singer, songwriter and producer. In 2017, her song "Dance While You Shoot" was used by Apple in an advertising campaign for its music streaming service. In the same year she released her debut album, '' Off the Radar'' to critical acclaim. Her second album, ''Kids'', was released in 2021.
