Illia Volodymyrovych Kyvarussian: Илья́ Влади́мирович Ки́ва, translit=Ilya Vladimirovich Kiva (born 2 June 1977) is a Ukrainian politician. He worked as an official and policeman before entering politics, heading the Poltava chapter of the Right Sector party before taking the Socialist Party of Ukraine under his control in 2017 and serving as its leader from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, he was an unsuccessful presidential candidate, and he proceeded to be elected as a member of the Opposition Platform — For Life party in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's national parliament, between 2019 and the 15 March 2022, when the Verkhovna Rada deprived him of his mandate, following comments in support of Russia during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. During Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, he effectively defected to Russia by asking Russian president Vladimir Putin for a Russian passport (Russian citizenship) and political asylum. 2019 Ukrainian Parliamentary Election
Snap elections to the Ukrainian parliament were held on 21 July 2019. Originally scheduled to be held at the end of October, these elections were brought forward after newly inaugurated President of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dissolved parliament on 21 May 2019, during his inauguration. The election result was the one-party majority, a novelty in Ukraine, for President Zelenskyy's Servant of the People party with 254 seats. About 80 percent of the elected candidates were new to parliament; 83 deputies managed to get reelected from 8th Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, the previous parliament and 13 deputies from earlier convocations. 2019 Ukrainian Presidential Election
The 2019 Ukrainian presidential election was held on 31 March and 21 April in a two-round system. There were 39 candidates for the election on the ballot. The 2014 annexation of Crimea by Russia and the occupation of parts of Donetsk Oblast and Luhansk Oblast prevented around 12% of eligible voters from participating in the election. As no candidate received an absolute majority of the vote, a second round was held between the top two candidates, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a comedian who portrayed a fictional president of Ukraine in the comedy television series ''Servant of the People'', and the incumbent president, Petro Poroshenko, on 21 April 2019. St Mary's battalion was a Christian militia group known for fighting against pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. This organization claimed that they were influenced by Taliban.
