Il Divo
Il Divo (; ) are a multi-national classical crossover vocal group. The male quartet, which originated in the United Kingdom in December 2003, consists of tenors Urs Bühler, David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard. It also included baritone Carlos Marín before his death from COVID-19 in late 2021. Il Divo was created and promoted by Simon Cowell for the label Syco Music (a subsidiary of Sony Music). As of 2021, the group released ten studio albums: ''Il Divo'' (2004), '' The Christmas Collection'' (2005), ''Ancora'' (2005), '' Siempre'' (2006), '' The Promise'' (2008), ''Wicked Game'' (2011), ''A Musical Affair'' (2013), ''Amor & Pasión'' (2015), '' Timeless'' (2018), and ''For Once in My Life: A Celebration of Motown'' (2021); as well as a compilation album, '' The Greatest Hits'' (2012). Classical Crossover
Crossover is a term applied to musical works or performers who appeal to different types of audience. This can be seen, for example, (especially in the United States) when a song appears on two or more of the record charts which track differing musical styles or genres. If the second chart combines genres, such as a " Hot 100" list, the work is not a ''crossover''. In some contexts the term "crossover" can have negative connotations associated with cultural appropriation, implying the dilution of a music's distinctive qualities to appeal to mass tastes. For example, in the early years of rock and roll, many songs originally recorded by African-American musicians were re-recorded by white artists such as Pat Boone in a more toned-down style, often with changed lyrics, that lacked the hard edge of the original versions. ''Live in Japan'', also known as ''A Musical Affair: Live in Japan'', is the second live album by crossover classical group Il Divo, released on 12 November 2014 in Japan and 1 December 2014 in the rest of the world. The release shows the concert in Tokyo on 11 March 2014, in the Theatre Nippon Budokan. It follows their first live album ''An Evening with Il Divo: Live in Barcelona'', released in 2009. The artist Lea Salonga was invited by Il Divo to participate on some of the songs. ''Siempre'' is the fourth studio album by the classical crossover vocal group Il Divo. It was released on 21 November 2006 in the United States and globally on 27 November 2006 by Syco Music and Columbia Records. Background According to producer Steve Mac in an interview with HitQuarters, preparation for the album would involve Simon Cowell compiling a list of around 200 potential songs. Cowell would then whittle this number down to around 40 which he then presented to Mac for consideration. Mac would then tell Cowell which of these would or would not work.
