Ikram Ahmed
Ikram Ahmed is retired civil servant and former chairperson of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission. Early life Ahmed was born on 14 April 1951. Career In 2008, Ahmed was the Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka Division. He is the Convener of the Families United against Road Accident. Ahmed was appointed chairperson of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission in December 2013. He replaced A. T. Ahmedul Huq Chowdhury as chairperson of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission. During his term the 34th Bangladesh Civil Service exam was delayed over a legal case filed by tribal applicants whose names were dropped from passing applicant after removal of quota. In April 2016, Ahmed was replaced by Mohammad Sadique as chairperson of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission. Bangladesh Public Service Commission
Bangladesh Public Service Commission ( bn, বাংলাদেশ সরকারী কর্ম কমিশন) is a quasi judicial constitutional body established in 1972. The commission is responsible for the recruitment of civil service servants in the Bangladesh government. It was formed by Section 137 of Part IX, Chapter II of the Constitution of Bangladesh. History The commission started as a public service commission in 1926 during British India. It was later known as the East Pakistan Public service commission after the partition of India. After the Independence of Bangladesh it was established as the Bangladesh Public Service Commission in 1972. For a while it used the Chummery House as its headquarters. Dhaka Division ( bn, ঢাকা বিভাগ, ''Ḑhaka Bibhag'') is an administrative division within Bangladesh. Dhaka serves as the capital city of the Dhaka Division, the Dhaka District and Bangladesh. The division remains a population magnet, covers an area of 20,508.8 km2 with a population in excess of 44 million, growing at 1.94% rate since prior count, compared with national average of 1.22%. However, national figures may include data skewing expatriation of male labor force as gender ratio is skewed towards females. Bangladesh Civil Service ( bn, বাংলাদেশ সিভিল সার্ভিস ), more popularly known by its acronym BCS, is the civil service of Bangladesh. Civil service in the Indian subcontinent originated from the Imperial Civil Service which was the elite higher civil service of the British Empire in India during British rule in the period between 1858 and 1947. After the partition of 1947, East Bengal became a province of Pakistan, so it was Central Superior Services of Pakistan which later after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 became known as Bangladesh Civil Service. The Bangladesh Election Commission ( bn, বাংলাদেশ নির্বাচন কমিশন), abbreviated and publicly referred to as EC, is an independent constitutional body that operates the legal functions of election laws in Bangladesh. Article 118 of the Bangladeshi Constitution allows the commission to be formed consisting of a chief election commissioner alongside a number of assisting election commissioners under permission granted by the president of Bangladesh. Structure The appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh and other election commissioners (if any) is made by the president. When the election commission consists of more than one person, the chief election commissioner is to act as its chairman.
