Ikaros Smederna
Smederna is a motorcycle speedway club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club competes in the highest speedway league in Sweden called the Elitserien and race its home matches at Smedstadion outside Eskilstuna. Ikaros Smederna was formerly known as just Smederna but after making a sponsorship deal with company Ikaros in the fall of 2008 the club changed its name. However, this did not have the wanted effect on the club economy and in July 2009 the club went bankrupt and withdrew from Elitserien to restart in Division 1. Smederna has won six Swedish Speedway Team Championships, in 1973, 1977, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, and were the home club of three individual world champions, Billy Hamill, Mark Loram and Nicki Pedersen. Joel Andersson (born 10 April 1996) is an international speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Andersson came to prominence at the 2015 Team Speedway Junior European Championship where he won a silver medal and top scored for Sweden. The following year he won the 2016 Swedish U21 championship, finished fourth in the 2016 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and the 2016 Team Speedway Junior European Championship and reached the 2016 Speedway Under-21 World Championship final. Daniel Bewley (born 10 May 1999) is a British international speedway rider. Career Bewley started riding for the Belle Vue Colts and as a reserve for the Edinburgh Monarchs in 2017. In 2017, he won the National League Riders' Championship before being promoted to the senior side (Belle Vue Aces) in 2017. The same year he won the 2017 Conference League Riders' Championship. The History of motorcycle speedway in Sweden consists of the league tables of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. History The first season was in 1948 but it was during the 1950s motorcycle speedway became one of Sweden's most popular team sports where each fixture drew audiences between 10,000 and 20,000 people. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship was founded a few years earlier in 1948 and was inspired by British speedway including adopting the British teams nicknames in Swedish versions. For instance the Norrköping team became Vargarna (English: "The Wolves"), the Eskilstuna team became Smederna (English: "The Blacksmiths") and the club Motorsällskapet became Getingarna (English: "The Wasps"). Allsvenskan (literally, "The National League") is the second tier in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises seven Swedish speedway teams. Until the introduction of the Elitserien in 1982 the Allsvenskan was the highest level of Swedish Speedway.
