The Cultural Revolution, formally known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, was a sociopolitical movement in the People's Republic of China (PRC) launched by Mao Zedong in 1966, and lasting until his death in 1976. Its stated goal was to preserve Chinese communism by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society. Phoenix InfoNews Channel is a Hong Kong pay television news channel owned by Phoenix Television. It is the first channel to report news across the Greater China region, which includes mainland China, Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Phoenix Movies Channel is one of the six channels that Phoenix Television operates. It was launched on August 28, 1998, and serves as an encrypted pay-television service. Currently the encrypted signal is beamed via AsiaSat 3S across China, Vietnam (Via HTVC) and South Korea (Via SBS). In the beginning, it was broadcast via cable in Hong Kong, and via satellite to Taiwan, and other regions worldwide besides the mainland. Due to stiff competition from other Chinese movie channels, the channel was withdrawn from those regions.
