Cadair Idris
Cadair Idris or Cader Idris is a mountain in the Meirionnydd area of Gwynedd, Wales. It lies at the southern end of the Snowdonia National Park near the town of Dolgellau. The peak, which is one of the most popular in Wales for walkers and hikers, is composed largely of Ordovician igneous rocks, with classic glacial erosion features such as cwms, moraines, striated rocks, and roches moutonnées. Etymology ''Cadair Idris'' means 'Idris's Chair'. Idris is usually taken to be the name of a giant or, alternatively, it may refer to Idris ap Gwyddno (or Gweiddno), a 7th-century prince of Meirionnydd who won a battle against the Irish on the mountain. Idris ap Gwyddno was in fact referred to as ''Idris Gawr'' ("Idris the Giant") in some mediaeval genealogies of Meirionydd. The basic meaning of the word ''cadair'' (Middle Welsh/Early Modern Welsh ''kadeir'' or ''cadeir'') is 'seat, chair' (borrowed from the Greek ''cathedra'' 'chair'). In place names ''cadair'' can mean 'stronghold, ...

Idris (operating System)
Idris is a discontinued multi-tasking, Unix-like, multi-user, real-time operating system released by Whitesmiths, of Westford, Massachusetts. The product was commercially available from 1979 through 1988. Background Idris was originally written for the PDP-11 by P. J. Plauger, who started working on Idris in August 1978. It was binary compatible with Unix V6 on PDP-11, but it could run on non- memory managed systems (like LSI-11 or PDP-11/23) as well. The kernel required 31  KB of RAM, and the C compiler (provided along with the standard V6 toolset) had more or less the same size. Ports Although Idris was initially available for the PDP-11, it was later ported to run on a number of platforms, such as the VAX, Motorola 68000, System/370 and Intel 8086. There was also a version that used bank-switching for memory management, that ran on the Intel 8080. In 1986, David M. Stanhope at Computer Tools International A computer is a machine that can be programmed to carry o ...

Idris (prophet)
Idris ( ar, إدريس, ʾIdrīs) is an ancient prophet mentioned in the Quran, whom Muslims believe was the third prophet after Seth. He is the second prophet mentioned in the Quran. Islamic tradition has unanimously identified Idris with the biblical Enoch, although many Muslim scholars of the classical and medieval periods also held that Idris and Hermes Trismegistus were the same person. He is described in the Quran as "trustworthy" and "patient" and the Quran also says that he was "exalted to a high station". Because of this and other parallels, traditionally Idris has been identified with the biblical Enoch, and Islamic tradition usually places Idris in the early Generations of Adam, and considers him one of the oldest prophets mentioned in the Quran, placing him between Adam and Noah. Idris' unique status inspired many future traditions and stories surrounding him in Islamic folklore. According to ''hadith'', narrated by Malik ibn Anas and found in ''Sahih Muslim'', it ...

Idris (programming Language)
Idris is a purely-functional programming language with dependent types, optional lazy evaluation, and features such as a totality checker. Idris may be used as a proof assistant, but it is designed to be a general-purpose programming language similar to Haskell. The Idris type system is similar to Agda's, and proofs are similar to Coq's, including tactics (theorem proving functions/procedures) via elaborator reflection. Compared to Agda and Coq, Idris prioritizes management of side effects and support for embedded domain-specific languages. Idris compiles to C (relying on a custom copying garbage collector using Cheney's algorithm) and JavaScript (both browser- and Node.js-based). There are third-party code generators for other platforms, including JVM, CIL, and LLVM. Idris is named after a singing dragon from the 1970s UK children's television program ''Ivor the Engine''. Features Idris combines a number of features from relatively mainstream functional programming lang ...
