Idalia, Missouri
Idalia is an unincorporated community in Stoddard County, Missouri, United States. It is located six miles northeast of Dexter. A post office called Idalia was established in 1889, and remained in operation until 1966. According to tradition, the community was named after the daughter of the original owner of the site. Idalia was at milepost 43.91 of the Illmo Sub-division of the St. Louis Southwestern Railway The St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company , known by its nickname of "The Cotton Belt Route" or simply "Cotton Belt", is a former Class I railroad that operated between St. Louis, Missouri, and various points in the U.S. states of Arkansas, Ten .... Dexter, Missouri
Dexter is a city in Stoddard County, Missouri, United States, founded in 1873. The population was 7,864 at the 2010 census. History Dexter was platted in 1873. Mr. Dex, an early settler, gave the community the name of his horse, Dexter. Dexter experienced rapid growth with the arrival of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway. A post office called Dexter City was established in 1873, and the name was changed to Dexter in 1887. The Dexter Gymnasium was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. On July 10th, 2021, an EF2 tornado hit the town with at least 150 homes reported damaged. Geography Dexter is located southwest of Sikeston. Dexter is located on what is known as Crowley's Ridge.
