Iconic Newspapers is an Irish newspaper company that publishes over 20 regional newspapers. Iconic Newspapers are owned by Mediaforce who are majority owned by Malcolm Denmark. Iconic Newspapers hold their newspaper assets in a subsidiary called Formpress Publishing. In 2014, Iconic Newspapers acquired Johnson Press Ireland. Johnston Press Ireland was formed in 2005 following the purchase of Scottish Radio Holdings's newspapers known as Score Press by Johnston Press in 2005 for £155 million. In the same year, Johnson Press Ireland also purchased the Leinster Leader Group (just after Leinster Leader Group had purchased Tallaght Publishing Ltd), who published six titles, for €138.6 million. Johnston Press
Johnston Press plc was a multimedia company founded in Falkirk, Scotland, in 1767. Its flagship titles included UK-national newspaper the '' i'', ''The Scotsman'', the ''Yorkshire Post'', the ''Falkirk Herald'', and Belfast's ''The News Letter''. The company was operating around 200 newspapers and associated websites around the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man when it went into administration and was the purchased by JPIMedia in 2018. The ''Falkirk Herald'' was the company's first acquisition in 1846. Johnston Press's assets were transferred to JPIMedia in 2018, who continued to publish its titles. Johnston Press announced it would place itself in administration on 16 November 2018 after it was unable to find a suitable buyer of the business to refinance £220m of debt. National World is a British multimedia company. The company was founded as JPIMedia Publishing Ltd in November 2018 following the acquisition of Johnston Press assets by its creditors. JPIMedia was purchased by National World PLC for £10.2 million in January 2021. In April 2022, JPIMedia was rebranded to National World. Its flagship titles include ''The Scotsman'', the ''Yorkshire Post'', the ''Falkirk Herald'' and Belfast's ''The News Letter''. The ''Letterkenny Post'' (formerly the ''Letterkenny Leader'') is a freesheet newspaper published by Iconic Newspapers in Letterkenny, County Donegal. It was the first paper from River Media. The newspaper specialises in property, motoring, entertainment, farming and fashion. Its offices are located at the Dry Arch Business Park, Bonagee. The paper also publishes a free digital copy of the paper through its website. History It was published weekly from 1 September 2005 with close to €700,000 being invested in its weekly publication. The ''Letterkenny People'' (formerly the ''Letterkenny Listener'') is a weekly freesheet published in Letterkenny, County Donegal in northwest Ireland. The paper was originally distributed as the ''Letterkenny Listener'' in 2000 and took its current title in 2005. It is owned by Iconic Newspapers, which acquired Johnston Press's titles in the Republic of Ireland in 2014. Leitrim Observer
The ''Leitrim Observer'' is the oldest newspaper in County Leitrim. It is a weekly newspaper published every Wednesday and once competed with another newspaper called the ''Leitrim Post'' which was forced to close in 2009 during the economic crash. History The ''Leitrim Observer'' was founded by the Mulvey family in 1889 and was bought by Pat Dunne, for a rumoured sum of £150 some time before 1910. The Black and Tans made the paper their first stop when they came to Carrick-on-Shannon during the War of Independence and badly burned the premises, destroying a lot of the early files of the paper. In those times, the local news pages were printed at the paper's works in Carrick-on-Shannon, while the "international" news pages were printed elsewhere, and the front page was devoted entirely to advertising. The ''Leinster Leader'' is a newspaper published in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland. Johnston Press bought the Leinster Leader Group in 2005. The ''Inish Times'' is a local Irish newspaper based in Buncrana in Donegal's Inishowen peninsula. It serves the Inishowen area and is also sold in nearby areas such as Derry and Letterkenny. The paper, which is published each Tuesday, was first started in 1999 and is now part of the River Media group of publications which include the ''Letterkenny Post'' and the '' Donegal Post''. The ''Dundalk Democrat'' is a regional newspaper printed in Dundalk, Ireland. Established in 1849, it primarily serves County Louth as well as County Monaghan and parts of County Armagh, County Down, County Cavan and County Meath. The ''Donegal Post'' is a local weekly regional newspaper published in County Donegal, Ireland. When the paper was first launched by River Media in June 2006, it served the area of south County Donegal, west County Fermanagh, north County Leitrim and north County Sligo. It was soon joined by sister papers in Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Wicklow which have all since closed down. The Rivermedia directors have cited the effects of the current economic recession as the main problem leading to the closures. The ''Donegal People's Press'' (formerly ''Donegal People's Press and Derry and Tyrone News'') is a weekly local newspaper in north County Donegal, Ireland. The paper is published every Tuesday in the north of the county, and a separate edition of the paper, with some alterations, is published in the south of the county, as the Tuesday edition of the '' Donegal Democrat''.
