Ibtihal Salem
Ibtihal Salem (1949 – 15 August 2015) was an Egyptian short story writer, novelist and translator. She was born in Giza and studied psychology at Ain Shams University. She has worked in Egyptian theatre and radio. Her first collection of short stories, ''al-Nawras'' (''The Seagull'') was published in 1989, followed by a second volume ''Dunya Saghira'' (''Small World'') in 1992. Her first novel ''Nawafiz Zarqaa'' (''Blue Windows'', 2000) was well received by critics. She has published several more short story collections and novels. Salem is considered to be part of the same generation of women writers as Sahar Tawfiq, Siham Bayyumi and Salwa Bakr. A selection of her stories has been translated into English by Marilyn Booth under the title ''Children of the Waters''. Al-Ahram
''Al-Ahram'' ( ar, الأهرام; ''The Pyramids''), founded on 5 August 1875, is the most widely circulating Egyptian daily newspaper, and the second oldest after '' al-Waqa'i`al-Masriya'' (''The Egyptian Events'', founded 1828). It is majority owned by the Egyptian government, and is considered a newspaper of record for Egypt. Giza
Giza (; sometimes spelled ''Gizah'' arz, الجيزة ' ) is the second-largest city in Egypt after Cairo and fourth-largest city in Africa after Kinshasa, Lagos and Cairo. Marilyn Booth
Marilyn Louise Booth (born 24 February 1955) is an author, scholar and translator of Arabic literature. Since 2015, she has been the Khalid bin Abdullah Al Saud Professor for the Study of the Contemporary Arab World at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford. Biography Booth graduated ''summa cum laude'' from Harvard University in 1978, and was the first female winner of the Wendell Scholarship. She obtained a D.Phil. in Arabic literature and Middle Eastern history from St Antony's College, Oxford in 1985. She received a Marshall Fellowship for her doctoral studies at Oxford.
