Ibsley Circuit
Ibsley Circuit was a car racing circuit situated at RAF Ibsley, on the Fordingbridge to Ringwood Road in Hampshire, United Kingdom. Autosport states that the circuit was used for car racing from 1951 to 1955. All racing took place on Saturdays because its close proximity to the Church of St. Martin in Ibsley. The building was so close that the noise of the racing vehicles could disturb the congregation at worship. History 1951 The first meeting was held on 17 May 1951, and was according to ''Motor Cycling'' a great success. The star of the event was Bob Foster on his Velocette. He won the Junior 350cc and rode the same machine in the Senior race, just managing to make the final after a straw bale crash in his qualifying heat. However Foster lost in the final, finishing fourth. Roger Dennistoun "Dennis" Poore (19 August 1916, Paddington, London – 12 February 1987, Kensington) was a British entrepreneur, financier and sometime racing driver. He became chairman of NVT during the dying days of the old British motorcycle industry. Family His father, Roger Poore, DSO, was killed in action in World War I on 26 September 1917. On 24 March 1949, Dennis Poore married Peta Coast. They had one daughter, Victoria Borwick MP. David Murray (racing Driver)
David Murray (28 December 1909 – 5 April 1973) was a British racing driver from Scotland. He participated in five Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 13 May 1950, and also founded the Ecurie Ecosse Scottish motor racing team, based at Merchiston Mews in Edinburgh. Murray was a chartered accountant by profession and raced an English Racing Automobiles, ERA and subsequently a Maserati 4CL and 4CLT, Maserati 4CLT both domestically and in European events, before forming Ecurie Ecosse in 1952. He also participated in rallies and hill-climbs. After one World Championship event, for Ecosse, Murray retired as a driver to concentrate on running the team. Ecurie Ecosse won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans 24-hour race in both 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1956 and 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1957 each time with a Jaguar D-Type. Kenneth McAlpine
Kenneth McAlpine (born 21 September 1920) is a British former racing driver from England. Biography McAlpine was born in Cobham, Surrey and is a grandson of civil engineer Sir Robert McAlpine. He participated in seven Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 19 July 1952 at the British Grand Prix. He scored no championship points. During the development of the Connaught Racing Team based at Send in Surrey, McAlpine became a considerable financial backer and enjoyed several team owner triumphs including Tony Brooks's memorable F1 victory at the 1955 Syracuse Grand Prix. The team was eventually broken up in 1958 and cars sold off, including one or more to a young Bernie Ecclestone. George Edgar Abecassis (21 March 1913 – 18 December 1991) was a British racing driver, and co-founder of the HWM Formula One team. Pre-1946 career Born in Oatlands, Surrey, Abecassis was educated at Clifton College. He began circuit racing in 1935 in a modified Austin Seven which became known as ''The Einsitzer''. The Jaguar C-Type (officially called the Jaguar XK120-C) is a racing sports car built by Jaguar and sold from 1951 to 1953. The "C" stands for "competition". Ecurie Ecosse (French: "Scotland Stable") was a motor racing team from Edinburgh, Scotland. The team was founded in November 1951 by Edinburgh businessman and racing driver David Murray and mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson. Its most notable achievement was winning the 1956 and the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team also raced in three Formula One races.
