Iași Railway Station
Iași railway station is the main railway station in Iași, and one of the oldest in Romania. It is part of the Pan-European Corridor IX. History Opened in 1870, the Grand Railway Station first connected Iași to Chernivtsi in Bukovina, Austria-Hungary and, after two years, to Bucharest. The original building designed by Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz-Lwigród and inspired by the Doge's Palace of the Republic of Venice, is long, has 113 rooms and is listed in the National Register of Historic Monuments. In 1928-1930, two additional wings were symmetrically added to each side of the building. In 1980, a new separate building was constructed on the north side of the complex station and named Iași Nord. Căile Ferate Române (; abbreviated as the CFR) is the state railway carrier of Romania. As of 2014, the railway network of Romania consists of , of which (37.4%) are electrified. The total track length is , of which (38.5%) are electrified. The CIA World Factbook lists Romania with the 23rd largest railway network in the world. Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz-Lwigród
Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz-Lwigród (17 July 1837 – 27 December 1898), commonly referred to as Julian Zachariewicz, was an Austro-Hungarian architect and renovator of Armenian descent. Father of Alfred Zachariewicz. Zachariewicz was a graduate of the Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna, and a professor and rector (1881–1882) of the Lemberg Polytechnic. Life He was born in Lemberg, Austrian Empire (Polish: Lwów, now Lviv, Ukraine) to an Armenian family. He graduated from the Vienna University of Technology. Until 1870, he held numerous positions as a qualified engineer in the Austrian State Railways. In 1871, he was offered the post of director of the newly-established Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Lviv Technical Academy (now Lviv Polytechnic). As a consequence, he returned to Lviv and worked as professor at the academy and was appointed dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Arad Central railway station ( ro, Gara Centrală din Arad) is the largest railway station in the city of Arad, and the largest in the Arad County. It is the second largest railway station in the western region of Romania, immediately after TimiÈ™oara Nord railway station. Iași International Airport is an international airport located in Iași, Romania, east of the city centre. One of the oldest accredited airports in Romania and the most important airport in the historical region of Moldavia, Iași Airport was in 2019 the fourth-busiest airport in Romania in terms of passenger traffic. The Compania de Transport Public (CTP) Iași (English language, English: ''Iași Public Transport Company'') is the major transit operator responsible for public transportation in Iași, Romania. Ungheni () is a municipality in Moldova. With a population of 35,157, it is the seventh largest town in Moldova and the seat of Ungheni District. There is a bridge across the Prut and a border checkpoint to Romania. There is another border town with the same name in Romania (Ungheni, Iași), on the other side of the Prut River.
