Ian McBryde (1991-1995)
Ian McBryde is an Australian poet. He was born in 1953 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada but has been a long time Australian resident. He has published ten books of poems and three audio CDs of spoken word poetry and original music A widely admired poet in Australia his most recent, and tenth book, a new and selected publication, was highly anticipated by his contemporaries. We the Mapless: new and selected poems was launched in Melbourne, Australia, at Collected Works Bookshop in February 2017 and at The Queensland Poetry Festival at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts in August, 2017. Career In addition to writing poetry, McBryde has also painted and sketched, and spent time as a drummer in progressive jazz-rock bands. McBryde's 2005 book ' Slivers' consists entirely of Monostich style poems that attempt to relate a whole poem in one line. AustLit: The Australian Literature Resource (also known as AustLit: Australian Literature Gateway; and AustLit: The Resource for Australian Literature), usually referred to simply as AustLit, is an internet-based, non-profit collaboration between researchers and librarians from Australian universities, led by the University of Queensland (UQ), designed to comprehensively record the history of Australian literary and story-making cultures. Monostich
A monostich is a poem which consists of a single line. Form A monostich has been described as "a startling fragment that has its own integrity" and "if a monostich has an argument, it is necessarily more subtle." A monostich could be also titled; due to the brevity of the form, the title is invariably as important a part of the poem as the verse itself: Some one line poems have "the characteristics of not exceeding one line of a normal page, to be read as one unbroken line without forced pauses or the poetics of caesura", and others have "a rhythm, (as with one-line haiku), dividing easily into three phrases". Hale And Iremonger
Hale & Iremonger is an Australian independent publisher. It was founded in 1977 by Sylvia Hale, John Iremonger and Roger Barnes. John left the company in 1980, moving to Allen & Unwin. By 2002, when Sylvia became involved in NSW state politics, some 500 books had been published on politics, urban history, women's studies and poetry. In 2010 Hale & Iremonger's list was bought by Michael Rakusin, formerly of Tower Books.
