IPT World Open Eight-ball Championship
The IPT World Open Eight-ball Championship was an eight-ball pool tournament held between 3–9 September 2006 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, by the International Pool Tour. It was the third and last event of the tour It was the richest event in the history of cue sports. The total purse was $3M where $500K was offered to the winner. Summary The tournament held a total of 200 players (150 tour members and 50 qualifiers). The players were divided into several groups of certain numbers. Those leading in each group proceeded into the next round where they were placed into new groups. Every match was a race to 8. Eight-ball Pool
Eight-ball (also spelled 8-ball or eightball, and sometimes called solids and stripes, spots and stripes or rarely highs and lows) is a discipline of pool played on a billiard table with six pockets, cue sticks, and sixteen billiard balls (a and fifteen ). The object balls include seven solid-colored balls numbered 1 through 7, seven striped balls numbered 9 through 15, and the black 8 ball. International Pool Tour
The International Pool Tour was a professional sports tour created in 2005 by Kevin Trudeau and hosted by Rebecca Grant. It aimed to elevate pool to the level of other modern sports. Closely modeled on the PGA Tour, the IPT offered the largest prize funds in pool history in its first year. The tour attracted the top pool players in the world. It differed from the many nine-ball tournaments, as all IPT events were eight-ball matches. The company was based in Hinsdale, Illinois. Many pool enthusiasts were initially skeptical, but the first event was successful, and at the time was the biggest tournament in billiards history. Efren Reyes
Efren Manalang Reyes (born August 26, 1954), popularly known by the nickname "Bata" (English: "Kid"), is a Filipino professional pool player. Reyes is widely considered one of the greatest pool players of all time. A winner of over 100 international titles, Reyes was the first player to win the WPA World Championships in two different pool disciplines. Rodney Morris (born 25 November 1970 in Anaheim, California, USA) is a professional pool player of Chamorro - Hawaiian descent. Nicknamed "Rocket" he currently resides in Acworth, Georgia. Rodney married his wife Rheyannon in July 2020. Career In 1996, Morris won his first major tournament by defeating Efren Reyes in the finals of the US Open Nine-ball Championship. In 2001, after 5 years of not playing in a tournament Morris came back to win the Sands Regency 9-Ball Open. In 2003, he was on top form and dominated the World Pool League tournament, besting Thorsten Hohmann the reigning World Champion. He has represented Team USA in the Mosconi Cup on eight occasions.
