The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI by its name in es, Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática) is an autonomous agency of the Mexican Government dedicated to coordinate the National System of Statistical and Geographical Information of the country. It was created on January 25, 1983, by presidential decree of Miguel de la Madrid. It is the institution responsible for conducting the Censo General de Población y Vivienda every ten years; as well as the economic census every five years and the agricultural, livestock and forestry census of the country. The job of gathering statistical information of the Institute includes the monthly gross domestic product, consumer trust surveys and proportion of commercial samples; employment and occupation statistics, domestic and couple violence; as well as many other jobs that are the basis of studies and projections to other governmental institutions. Aguascalientes
Aguascalientes (; ), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Aguascalientes ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Aguascalientes), is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico. At 22°N and with an average altitude of above sea level it is predominantly of semi-arid climate ( Bhs and Bhk), and it is located in the northern part of the Bajío region, in north-central Mexico, bordered by Zacatecas to the north, east and west, and by Jalisco to the south. As of 2019, Aguascalientes has a population of 1.4 million inhabitants, most of whom live in its capital city, also named Aguascalientes. Its name means "hot waters" and originated from the abundance of hot springs originally found in the area. The demonym for the state's inhabitants is ''hidrocálido'' or ''aguascalentense''. The Censo de Población y Vivienda (''Population and Housing Census'') is the main national population census for Mexico. It is compiled by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), a decentralized agency of the Government of Mexico, Mexican Federal government, with the purpose of collating and reporting detailed demography, demographic, socioeconomic and geography, geographical data from across the nation, and is conducted every ten years. As of 2021, there have been a total of 14 national population censuses, the most recent completed in 2020. Sociedad Mexicana De Geografía Y Estadística
Sociedad Mexicana de Geografía y Estadística (Mexican Society for Geography and Statistics) is a national organization founded on 18 April 1833 to promote the mapping and boundary demarcation of the newly independent Mexican state. The aim of its founders was to aid a number of governmental agencies and through the efforts of liberal head of state, Valentín Gómez Farías. It was the first geographical society in the Americas and the fourth in the world. From the beginning, the scope of projects was very broad, covering not only the physiography of the territory but also its natural resources and their potential for development. Also included in their study was the nature of the population, its size, age distribution, ethnic and linguistic makeup. Graciela Márquez Colín
Graciela Márquez Colín is a Mexican academic and economist. She held the position of Mexican Minister of Economy from 2018–2020, under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. As of January 2021, she holds the position of Vice President of the Governing Board of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). She is set to occupy this role for an eight-year term, until December 2028. Previously she was Professor of Economic History at the El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico City where she was a full professor at the Centro de Estudios Historicos. She was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago. In 2002 she received her Ph.D. from Harvard University in Economic History.
