IMOCA 60 For People
For People is an IMOCA 60 monohull sailing yacht, designed by Antoine Koch in cooperation with Finot-Conq, constructed by CDK Technologies in France, and launched on 16 March 2023. It is designed for the Vendée Globe 2024, a non-stop round-the-world solo race. It is skippered by the French offshore sailor Thomas Ruyant. Design It is a sister ship to Paprec Arkéa and, similarly to that yacht, features a fully enclosed cockpit with a shock absorbing seat. The hull is optimized for the downwind conditions of the southern ocean, but has a slim design. IMOCA 60
The IMOCA ("Open 60"), is a 60ft development class monohull sailing yacht administered by the International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA). The class pinnacle event are single or two person ocean races, such as the Route du Rhum and the Vendée Globe and this has been intimately linked to design development within the class. Class description This class is of "open" design, this means the boat is measurement controlled and therefore designers have freedom within the rules. Design restrictions include the length (between 59 and ) and maximum draft (). There are no explicit restrictions on beam, mast height or sail area although these are all indirectly controlled by flotation and self-righting capability requirements. CDK Technologies is a boat building company now located in Lorient (France) with a primary site in marine hub of Port-la-Forêt. It was founded in 1984, it specializes in the construction of prototype sailboats for offshore racing. 2024–2025 Vendée Globe
The 2024–2025 Vendée Globe is a non-stop Around the world sailing record, round the world Yacht racing, yacht race for IMOCA 60 class yachts crewed by only one person. It will be the tenth edition of the race, and will start and finish in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France. The race is scheduled to begin on 10 November 2024. Qualification The race organisers have published the initial notice of race allowing a record entry of 40 boats to compete. The rules now prohibit older IMOCA 60 from competing with 2008 generation boats being the oldest allowed to compete. The 13 first new boat skipper combinations starting two of five solo races (one in 2022 or 2023 and one in 2024) qualification races and finishing one of them will be selected automatically. Around The World Sailing Record
The first around the world sailing record for circumnavigation of the world was Juan Sebastián Elcano and the remaining members of Ferdinand Magellan's crew who completed their journey in 1522. The first solo record was set by Joshua Slocum in the ''Spray'' (1898). The current record holders are IDEC 3, skippered by Francis Joyon in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds for a crewed journey, and François Gabart with Macif in 42 days, 16 hours, 40 minutes and 35 seconds for a solo journey. Most races or solo attempts start from Europe. Due to the configuration of the continents, sailing around the world consists of sailing on the Southern Ocean around the Antarctica continent, passing south of Cape Horn, Cape of Good Hope and Cape Leeuwin. He is an offshore sailor and competed in the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe IMOCA 60 onboard LinkedOut, named after a French employment charity. The Retour à la base, formerly Transat B to B (short for "back to Brittany") is a transatlantic single-handed yacht race exclusive to IMOCA 60 yachts, which first took place in 2007. It was introduced as a return race from destination of the Transat Jacques Vabre to Brittany, Metropolitan France, home to most IMOCA teams. The Transat Jacques Vabre is a yachting race that follows the historic coffee trading route between France and Brazil. It is named after (and sponsored by) a French brand of coffee. The course was drawn up back in 1993 to follow in the wake of the clippers transporting coffee from Brazil to France. Morgan Lagravière (born 23 May 1987 in Réunion) is a French professional sailor who was a member of the National Olympic squad before progressing into offshore sailing. Sailing background He comes from a dinghy sailing background from posium position the 420 Worlds he moved into the 49er class ending up as the reserve pair for the 2008 Summer Olympics together with Stéphane Christidis.
