IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Data Storage Device Technology Award
The IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Data Storage Device Technology Award was a Technical Field Award of the IEEE that was established by the IEEE Board of Directors in 2004 and was discontinued in 2011. The award was presented annually from 2006–2010 for outstanding contributions to the advancement of information storage, with an emphasis on technical contributions in computer data storage device technology. The award was named to honor Reynold B. Johnson. The award was presented to three co-recipients in 2006, and to individuals from 2007–2010. David Beauregard Bogy (Dave Bogy) is the William S. Floyd, Jr. Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). Mehrotra Predictor–corrector Method
Mehrotra's predictor–corrector method in optimization is a specific interior point method for linear programming. It was proposed in 1989 by Sanjay Mehrotra. The method is based on the fact that at each iteration of an interior point algorithm it is necessary to compute the Cholesky decomposition (factorization) of a large matrix to find the search direction. The factorization step is the most computationally expensive step in the algorithm. Therefore, it makes sense to use the same decomposition more than once before recomputing it. At each iteration of the algorithm, Mehrotra's predictor–corrector method uses the same Cholesky decomposition to find two different directions: a predictor and a corrector. The idea is to first compute an optimizing search direction based on a first order term (predictor).
