I-25 In Colorado
In the US state of Colorado, Interstate 25 (I-25) follows the north–south corridor through Colorado Springs and Denver. The highway enters the state from the north near Carr and exits the state near Starkville. The highway also runs through the cities of Fort Collins, Loveland, and Pueblo. The route is concurrent with U.S. Route 87 (US 87) through the entire length of the state. I-25 replaced US 87 and most of US 85 for through traffic. Historical nicknames for this route have included the Valley Highway (through Denver), Monument Valley Highway (through Colorado Springs), and the Pueblo Freeway (through Pueblo). Within El Paso County, the route has been dedicated as the Ronald Reagan Highway. In Pueblo County, the route is called John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway. Trinidad, Colorado
Trinidad is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 8,329 as of the 2020 census. Trinidad lies north of Raton, New Mexico, and south of Denver. It is on the historic Santa Fe Trail. History Early Trinidad was first explored by Spanish and Mexican traders, who liked its proximity to the Santa Fe Trail. It was founded in 1862 soon after coal was discovered in the region. This led to an influx of immigrants eager to capitalize on this natural resource. By the late 1860s, the town had about 1,200 residents. Trinidad was officially incorporated in 1876, just a few months before Colorado became a state. Santa Fe Trail
The Santa Fe Trail was a 19th-century route through central North America that connected Franklin, Missouri, with Santa Fe, New Mexico. Pioneered in 1821 by William Becknell, who departed from the Boonslick region along the Missouri River, the trail served as a vital commercial highway until 1880, when the railroad arrived in Santa Fe. Santa Fe was near the end of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro which carried trade from Mexico City. The trail was later incorporated into parts of the National Old Trails Road and U.S. Route 66. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Starkville, Colorado
Starkville is a Statutory Town in Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 62 at the 2020 census. History The town was named for Albert G. Stark, a coal mine owner. The community was formerly a company-owned coal- mining town owned and operated by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. On 8 October 1910, an explosion at the Starkville mine killed 56 miners. Exactly a month later, an explosion at the nearby Victor-American Fuel Company mine in Delagua killed 76. Miners from Starkville aided in the recovery efforts. Carr is an unincorporated community and U.S. Post Office in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The ZIP Code of the Carr Post Office is 80612. Some consider Carr a ghost town. Today, just a few old houses remain plus the school house and a few old store fronts. Aside from that there are scattered old foundations throughout the town. There are a few year-round residents but for the most part the town is abandoned. History The town of Carr was established by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1872. Carr was named for Robert E. Carr of the Union Pacific, who managed the construction of the rail line through the town. The Carr Post Office opened on March 26, 1872.
