Höljesbanan
Höljesbanan, also known as Höljes Motorstadion, is a rallycross circuit situated in the village of Höljes, in the Finnskogen ('Finnwoods') of the Swedish county Värmland, beside the river Klarälven and close to the Norwegian border. The circuit opened in February 1976 and is one of the most famous rallycross circuits in the world. Traditionally held over the first weekend of July the venue plays host to the so-called 'Magic Weekend' of rallycross when it runs the Swedish round of the European and World Rallycross championships. History The circuit was originally part of a go-kart centre opened in 1972 by the Finnskoga Motorklubb following the influx of Swedish drivers into Formula One, but quickly fell into disuse and it was decided the nearby gravel pit was to be turned into a rallycross circuit in October 1974. Höljes
Höljes is a minor locality situated in Torsby Municipality, Värmland County, Sweden with 79 inhabitants in 2015. History The earliest farm in the area that later became Norra Finnskoga parish is Höljes. Erik Fernow's description of Värmland, Beskrivning öfwer Wermeland (1773 - 79), tells that there was only one inhabitant in northern Värmland during the 14th century and he lived in Höljes. His closest neighbor lived 150 km from him in Gräs in Sunnemo. The farm that Fernow is referring to is probably Gammalgården. Another recorder believes that well into the 16th century there was only one village in Norra Finnskoga, and it was Höljes, located where the Klarälven makes an islet-adorned extension called Höljessjön. Värmland () also known as Wermeland, is a '' landskap'' (historical province) in west-central Sweden. It borders Västergötland, Dalsland, Dalarna, Västmanland, and Närke, and is bounded by Norway in the west. 2023 FIA World Rallycross Championship
The 2023 FIA World Rallycross Championship was the tenth season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, an auto racing championship recognized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallycross. Johan Kristoffersson won his sixth drivers championship at round 9 in Hong Kong. Kristoffersson Motorsport entered as the reigning teams champions. Calendar On 7 December 2022, the provisional 2023 calendar was announced during the FIA World Motorsport Council decisions. A calendar update was issued on 3 March 2023. Formula One Drivers From Sweden
There have been 11 Formula One drivers from Sweden who have entered a Formula One Grand Prix of whom 10 have started a race. Former drivers Erik Lundgren was the first Swedish driver to enter a Formula One race when he entered the 1951 German Grand Prix, however he would later withdraw. Jo Bonnier was the first Swedish Formula One driver. He made his debut at the 1956 Italian Grand Prix in a Maserati, resulting in a retirement. He raced sporadically across the following 15 Formula One seasons, his greatest achievement being victory in the 1959 Dutch Grand Prix with BRM. He was killed in an accident in the 1972 24 Hours of Le Mans. 1967 Swedish F3 champion Reine Wisell made his debut with Lotus at the 1970 United States Grand Prix. He scored a podium finish in his debut race, but only four more points finishes followed in his career, all in the following year. Per Eklund
Per Torsten Eklund (born 21 June 1946) is a Swedish Rally and Rallycross driver. His nickname is "Pekka". In rallying he never made it to the very top but he has been very successful in his later rallycross career. Biography Saab works drive After his education as a driving instructor, together with later teammate Stig Blomqvist at the ''Kvinnersta Folkhögskola'' outside of Örebro, Eklund was a Saab factory driver from 1970 till 1979. In 1982, however, the year after Saab discontinued its official rallying involvement, he achieved the brand's last top position in a World Championship event, finishing fourth in the Swedish Rally driving a privately entered, Clarion-sponsored Saab 99 Turbo. He was always proud of that result, since the competition consisted mostly of four-wheel-drive cars, and the event was run in snow. Kenneth Hansen (rallycross)
Svend Kenneth Hansen, born 29 September 1960 and hailing from Götene, is a Swedish rallycross driver with Danish roots. His late father, Svend Hansen, can be regarded as the inventor of the so-called ''Joker Lap'' for rallycross. Hansen has been part of the European rallycross elite since the late 1980s and has won an FIA European Championships for Rallycross Drivers title no less than 14 times up until the year 2008. He holds most of the records for rallycross, including the amount (249) of attended European rounds. Racing career Hansen began his racing career with karting in 1976 and via folkrace and rallying made his way to national rallycross in 1983. The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is a high-performance version of the Ford Sierra that was built by Ford Europe from 1986 to 1992. It was the result of a Ford Motorsport project with the purpose of producing an outright winner for Group A racing in Europe. Development The project was defined by Stuart Turner in the spring of 1983. He had recently been appointed head of Ford Motorsport in Europe, and he realised right away that Ford was no longer competitive in this area. Turner got in touch with Walter Hayes, at the time the vice-president of public relations at Ford, to get support for the project. Hayes had earlier been the driving force behind the development of the Ford GT40 that won Le Mans in 1966, and the Cosworth DFV engine that brought Ford 154 victories and 12 world championships in Formula One during the 1960s and 1970s.
