Hussein Maalim Mohamed
Hussein Maalim Mohamed ( so, Huseen Maalim Maxamed) is a Kenyan politician. He is a former Minister of State in the office of the president. Career Mohamed was born to an ethnic Somali family from the Abdulwak sub-clan of the Ogaden Darod. His older brother Mahamoud Mohamed was the Chief of General Staff of the Kenya Defence Forces, and was responsible for successfully suppressing the 1982 coup d'état attempt against then President of Kenya Daniel arap Moi. In 1983, Hussein became the first Somali to be appointed to Kenya's cabinet, when he was named Minister of State in the office of the presidency. General Mohamud Haji Mohamed Barrow ( so, Maxamuud Maxamed) is a former Kenyan military commander, and was Chief of General Staff of the Kenyan military and Commander Kenya Army. Career Mohamed was born to an ethnic Somali community in northeastern Kenya. His younger brother Hussein Maalim Mohamed was Kenya's Minister of State in the office of the presidency, the first Somali to be appointed to the cabinet. He was Commander Kenya Army from 1979 to 1981. On 1 August 1982, Mohamed commanded Kenyan military and police forces in a successful suppression of a coup d'état attempt against then President of Kenya Daniel arap Moi. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) ( sw, Majeshi ya Ulinzi ya Kenya, stylized as "KENYA ARMED FORCES" capitalized on its coat of arms) are the armed forces of the Republic of Kenya. 1982 Kenyan Coup D'état Attempt
The 1982 Kenyan coup d'état attempt was a failed attempt to overthrow President Daniel arap Moi's government. At 3 A.M. on Sunday, 1 August 1982, a group of soldiers from the Kenya Air Force took over Eastleigh Air Base just outside Nairobi, and by 4 A.M. the nearby Embakasi air base had also fallen. At 6 A.M. Senior Private Hezekiah Ochuka and Sergeant Pancras Oteyo Okumu captured the Voice of Kenya radio station in central Nairobi, from where they then broadcast in English and Swahili that the military had overthrown the government. Working at the behest of Ochuka, Corporal Bramwel Injeni Njereman was leading a plot to bomb the State House and the General Service Unit headquarters from the Laikipia Air Base, Nanyuki. Daniel Toroitich arap Moi ( ; 2 September 1924 – 4 February 2020) was a Kenyan politician who served as the second president of Kenya from 1978 to 2002. He was the country's longest-serving president. Moi previously served as the third vice president of Kenya from 1967 to 1978 under President Jomo Kenyatta, becoming president following the latter's death.
