Hurstbridge Football Club
Hurstbridge Football Club is an Australian rules football club located 34 km north east of Melbourne in the township of Hurstbridge. The club currently competes in the Northern Football League. History From the 1890s, social football was played at Lew Curtis's Flat, Hurstbridge. In 1914, the Hurstbridge Football Club was founded and matches were played in the Bourke Evelyn Football League. Hurstbridge transferred to the Heidelberg District Football Association for just the one season in 1921 before returning to the Bourke-Evelyn Football League. The Club moved activities to the newly developed Memorial Park (now known as the Ben Frilay Oval) in 1922. In 1923, the Club joined the Diamond Valley Football League for the first time and their initial match was hosting Eltham Football Club. Jack Grimes (footballer)
Jack Grimes (born 11 May 1989) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for and is a former captain of the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was named as an All-Australian at the 2007 NAB AFL U18 Championships. He was drafted by Melbourne in the 2007 National Draft at pick 14, but was placed on the long-term injury list due to stress-related back problems. He made his debut in the final game of the 2008 AFL season but suffered a further back injury in the early part of the 2009 season. He returned in round 7 and played eleven games in 2009, including Round 14 against West Coast when he was awarded three Brownlow Medal votes and was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award. The Northern Football Netball League (formerly known as the Diamond Valley Football League and later Northern Football League) is an Australian sports league based in the Diamond Valley region of suburban Melbourne, Victoria. The league regulates competitions of both sports, Australian rules football and netball in the region. In 1941 the league went into recess for five years as a result of World War II, the competition recommencing in 1946. After the war the league continued to grow. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Eltham Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Eltham, Victoria, currently competing in the Northern Football League. History The Eltham Football Club began playing social matches at nearby Kangaroo Ground, Diamond Creek and Greensborough from around 1904. Phil McGavin was listed as Secretary in 1904.
