Humber West
Humber West is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2011, there were 8,403 eligible voters living within the district. The district includes the western part of Corner Brook, as well as the communities of Gallants, George's Lake, Pinchgut Lake and Spruce Brook. The district has elected a member of the governing party in every election since confederation, with the exception of future premier Danny Williams' by-election win two years before he led his Progressive Conservative Party to power. The seat has been held by three former premiers of the province. From 2001 to 2010 premier Williams held the seat, from 1971 to 1979 the seat was represented by premier, Frank Moores and from 1966 to 1971 the seat was held by Joey Smallwood. Vaughn Granter
Vaughn Granter (born September 14, 1965) is a politician in Newfoundland and Labrador who currently serves as a City Councillor in Corner Brook. Granter previously served as the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Davis government. He was elected to serve in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly on February 15, 2011 and re-elected in the 2011 general election. Granter worked as in the education profession since 1987, most recently as a high school principal at Corner Brook Regional High. Granter ran for public office in the electoral district of Humber West in a by-election that was called after the resignation of Premier Danny Williams. He defeated two other opponents including Liberal, Mark Watton on February 15, 2011 with a large majority to hold the seat for the Progressive Conservative party. The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a political party in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The party is the provincial branch, and affiliate of the federal Liberal Party of Canada. It has served as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador since December 14, 2015. The NL Liberals were re-elected to a majority government in the 2021 provincial election. Origins The party originated in 1948 as the Newfoundland Confederate Association. Exploits (electoral District)
Exploits is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. In central Newfoundland on the Bay of Exploits, it lies between the Trans-Canada Highway in the south and Notre Dame Bay in the north. Most of the population lives in the southern centres of Botwood and Bishop's Falls. To the north, Exploits includes communities in Notre Dame Bay such as Cottrell's Cove, but most of the population lives in southern centres such as Botwood and Bishop's Falls. The 2003 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on October 21, 2003, to elect the 48 members of the 45th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The election was called on September 29 by Premier Roger Grimes of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. Results This election marked only the third change of government in the 54 years since the province joined Canada. The 2011 Newfoundland and Labrador general election took place on October 11, 2011, to elect members of the 47th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party (PC Party) formed a majority government in the 2007 election, with the Liberal Party serving as the Official Opposition and the New Democratic Party (NDP) serving as a third party.
