Newfoundland House Of Assembly
The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly is the unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building in St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Newfoundland and Labrador, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. This tradition dates back to the 1850s as the heaters in the Colonial Building were located on the left side. Thus, the government chose to sit near the heat, and leave the opposition sitting in the cold. Tom Osborne (Canadian Politician)
Tom Osborne (born 1964) is a politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He represents the district of Waterford Valley in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. He is a member of the Liberal Party, a former member of the Progressive Conservative Party, and a former Minister in Danny Williams' first cabinet. He is currently Minister of Health and Community Services in the Furey government. Osborne is the province's longest consecutively-serving MHA having been in the House of Assembly since 1996. Harvey Hodder (1943 – 17 September 2020) was a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador. Hodder was the Progressive Conservative Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the riding of Waterford Valley (later renamed Mount Pearl North) from 1993 to 2007. Ralph Wiseman is a Canadian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1996 to 2003, representing the electoral district of Topsail. Julie Bettney (born September 7, 1951) is a Canadian educator and former politician. She represented the district of Mount Pearl South in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1996 to 2003 as a member of the Liberal Party. She was born in Port au Port and was educated in Stephenville, in Grand Falls and at Memorial University, where she received a Bachelor of Physical Education.
