Huldschinsky Madonna (painting)
The ''Huldschinsky Madonna'' is a tempera-and-gold-on-panel painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Carlo Crivelli, executed ''c.'' 1460, and signed "OPVS KAROLI CRIVELLI VENETI". It is now in the San Diego Museum of Art. It is dated early in the artist's career, during or just after his stay in Padua in Francesco Squarcione's studio. There is a copy of the work with several variations signed "Opus P. Petri", who Roberto Longhi argued to be Pietro Calzetta, another Paduan School painter. Pietro Zampetti, ''Carlo Crivelli'', Nardini Editore, Firenze 1986 It is recorded in the Greek royal collections in Athens before passing into the Dohna-Mallmitz Collection and then the Huldschinsky Collection in Berlin, which gave it its name. Carlo Crivelli
Carlo Crivelli (Venice, c. 1430 – Ascoli Piceno, c. 1495) was an Italian Renaissance painter of conservative Late Gothic decorative sensibility, who spent his early years in the Veneto, where he absorbed influences from the Vivarini, Squarcione, and Mantegna. He left the Veneto by 1458 and spent most of the remainder of his career in the March of Ancona, where he developed a distinctive personal style that contrasts with that of his Venetian contemporary Giovanni Bellini. Filippo Lippi ( – 8 October 1469), also known as Lippo Lippi, was an Italian painter of the Quattrocento (15th century) and a Carmelite Priest. Biography Lippi was born in Florence in 1406 to Tommaso, a butcher, and his wife. He was orphaned when he was two years old and sent to live with his aunt Mona Lapaccia. Because she was too poor to rear him, she placed him in the neighboring Carmelite convent when he was eight years old. There, he started his education. Colnaghi is an art dealership in St James's, central London, England, which is the oldest commercial art gallery in the world, having been established in 1760.
