Huaxi University
The West China Union University ( zh, t=華西協合大學), also called West China University or Huaxi University, was a private university in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. It was the product of the collective efforts of four Protestant, denominational, missionary boards —American Baptist Foreign Mission Society (American Baptist Churches USA), American Methodist Episcopal Mission (Methodist Episcopal Church), Friends' Foreign Mission Association (British Quakers) and Canadian Methodist Mission (Methodist Church of Canada)— and eventually became a division of the West China Educational Union, which was created in 1906. The Church Missionary Society (Church of England) became a partner in the university in 1918. The West China Medical Center, Sichuan University ( zh, s=四川大学华西医学中心), formerly the West China University of Medical Sciences ( zh, t=華西醫科大學, s=华西医科大学, first=t), is a prestigious world-class public research institution of medical sciences located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Anglicanism in Sichuan refers to the history and implantation of Anglicanism in the Chinese province of Sichuan (formerly romanized as Szechwan, Szechuan, or Ssuchuan; also referred to as "Western China"). Anglicanism, along with Methodism, were the two largest Protestant denominations in that province. The Protestant mission began in the Chinese province of Sichuan (formerly romanized as Szechwan, Szechuan, or Ssuchuan; also referred to as "West China" or "Western China") in 1877, when premises were rented by the China Inland Mission in Chungking. However, it grew rather slowly, it was not until the late 1980s that Protestantism experienced rapid growth. The two largest denominations in the province before 1949 were Anglicanism and Methodism. John Leighton Stuart
John Leighton Stuart (; June 24, 1876 – September 19, 1962) was a missionary educator, the first President of Yenching University and later United States ambassador to China. He was a towering figure in U.S.-Chinese relations in the first half of the 20th century, a man TIME magazine called "perhaps the most respected American in China." Omar Leslie Kilborn
Omar Leslie Kilborn (Chinese name: zh, t=啓爾德, s=启尔德, first=t, labels=no; 1867–1920), was a Canadian medical missionary who greatly advanced Western medical techniques in West China. He was one of the founders of the West China Union University in Chengdu, Sichuan, China and was a member of the Canadian Methodist Church.
