Huacachina Oasis
Huacachina is a village built around a small oasis and surrounded by sand dunes in southwestern Peru. It is about five kilometers from the city of Ica in the Ica District of Ica Province. The oasis was introduced as a feature on the back of the 50 nuevo sol note in 1991. Huacachina has a permanent population of around 100 people, although it hosts many tens of thousands of tourists each year. The name comes from qu, wakachina, lit=guard, conceal, possibly shortened from . Oasis and lake Huacachina is built around a small natural desert lake, commonly referred to as the "oasis of America". According to local legends, the water and mud of the area are therapeutic. Marino Morikawa
Marino Morikawa is a Peruvian-Japanese environmental scientist (b. 1977). He is known for environmental work in Peru. Early life and education Born in Chancay in Peru, Morikawa has a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Biodiplomacy and a doctorate in Environmental Sciences from Tsukuba University in Japan. Career His work became well-known when featured in a ''National Geographic'' news report. The report covered his work on the restoration of Lake El Cascajo in Chancay, Peru, his home town. Morikawa also founded his own company, Nanoplus 7, which is dedicated to the decontamination of bodies of water. Morikawa has worked on up to 30 habitats around the world. Dune
A dune is a landform composed of wind- or water-driven sand. It typically takes the form of a mound, ridge, or hill. An area with dunes is called a dune system or a dune complex. Sandboarding
Sandboarding is a boardsport and extreme sport similar to snowboarding that involves riding across or down a sand dune while standing on a board, either with both feet strapped in or while standing loose, without bindings. Sandboarding can also be practised sitting down or lying on the belly or the back. It typically involves a sandboard, although it is also possible to use sleds, surfboards, a skateboard deck, or snowboards.
