Hoyts Edgley
Hoyts Edgley was a short lived Australian film and television production company. Company background It was formed in the wake of the success of '' The Man from Snowy Mountain'' (1982) in which Michael Edgley had invested. Simon Wincer had known Edgely for over twenty years and they decided to work together. ''The Man from Snowy River'' is a 1982 Australian Western drama film based on the Banjo Paterson poem "The Man from Snowy River". The film had a cast including Kirk Douglas in a dual role as the brothers Harrison (a character who appeared frequently in Paterson's poems) and Spur, Jack Thompson as Clancy, Tom Burlinson as Jim Craig, Sigrid Thornton as Harrison's daughter Jessica, Terence Donovan as Jim's father Henry Craig, and Chris Haywood as Curly. Both Burlinson and Thornton later reprised their roles in the 1988 sequel, ''The Man from Snowy River II'' (the film's original Australian title). Edgley International is a theatre and concert promotions company from Australia, first started in the 1930s and run by several generations. It has also been known as Edgley & Dawe Attractions, Edgley Ventures, and Michael Edgley International. The company is noted for bringing to Australia many foreign acts not previously seen in the country, particularly dance companies and circuses from Russia. Origins English song and dance vaudeville brothers Eric Edgley and Clement Edward were invited to Australia in 1920 by J&N Tait to appear in a production of ''Sinbad the Sailor'' at King's Theatre, Melbourne. Terry Jackman
Terry Jackman (born 1943 in Brisbane) is a retired businessman involved in media, sports, and tourism in Australia. He was the chairman of Tourism Queensland and the founder and chairman of Pacific Cinemas. He commenced work at the age of fifteen at Birch Carroll & Coyle, where he worked for twenty years, the last five as that company's chief executive. Between 1976 and 1985, Jackman was managing director of Hoyts Theatres. After exiting Hoyts he was involved in marketing Paul Hogan's first Crocodile Dundee film and was an investor in the movie. In 1989 he established Pacific Cinemas Pty Ltd, which has interests in five complexes in Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane. He is chairman and sole proprietor of the group. The Hoyts Group of companies in Australia and New Zealand includes Hoyts Cinemas and Val Morgan. Hoyts operates more than 450 cinema screens and 55,000 seats, making it Australia's second largest movie exhibitor after Event Hospitality & Entertainment. ''Phar Lap'' (also released as ''Phar Lap: Heart of a Nation'') is a 1983 film about the racehorse Phar Lap. The film stars Tom Burlinson and was written by David Williamson.
