Howard Dyck
Howard Dyck, CM (born November 17, 1942) is a Canadian conductor, public speaker, and radio broadcaster born in Winkler, Manitoba, now living Waterloo, Ontario. He is most well known as the longtime host of CBC Radio programmes ''Choral Concert'' and ''Saturday Afternoon at the Opera'', which he hosted from 1987-2007. Early life Dyck was born and raised in Winkler, Manitoba in 1942 and later studied at Mennonite Brethren Bible College, now Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg and Goshen College in Indiana.He took advanced studies in Choral, Orchestral and Opera Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany under Prof. Martin Stephani and the Internationale Bachakadamie in Stuttgart, Germany under Prof. Helmuth Rilling. Winkler is a city in Manitoba, Canada with a population of 13,745, making it the 4th largest city in Manitoba, as of the 2021 Canadian census. ''Messiah'' (HWV 56) is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. The text was compiled from the King James Bible and the Coverdale Bible, Coverdale Psalter by Charles Jennens. George Frideric Handel
George Frideric (or Frederick) Handel (; baptised , ; 23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759) was a German-British Baroque music, Baroque composer well known for his opera#Baroque era, operas, oratorios, anthems, concerto grosso, concerti grossi, and organ concertos. Bach Elgar Choir
The Bach-Elgar Choir is a community chorus of long standing in Hamilton, Ontario, currently directed by Alexander Cann. The Choir is composed of accomplished amateur singers from Hamilton and the neighbouring cities of Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga and Simcoe. Notable performances by the ensemble include the North American première of Verdi's ''Requiem'' and the Canadian premieres of Górecki's ''Miserere'' and Mahler's '' Symphony No. 2'' (the Resurrection). Grand Philharmonic Choir
The Grand Philharmonic Choir is a large classical music choir based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. The choir sings regularly with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony at the Centre in the Square. The choir's artistic director is Mark Vuorinen. History The choir was founded in 1883 as the Berlin (Ontario) Philharmonic and Orchestral Society. In 1922, after a hiatus, the choir re-organized itself and changed its name to the Kitchener Waterloo Philharmonic Choir, since the city of Berlin, Ontario had changed its name to Kitchener during World War I. Michael Schade (born 23 January 1965) is a Canadian operatic tenor, who was born in Geneva and raised in Germany and Canada. He and his wife Dee McKee, and their youngest child live in Vienna, Austria; the rest of the family lives in Canada.
