Russell Braun
Russell Braun (born 19 July 1965) is a Canadian operatic lyric baritone and Juno Award winner. Much sought-after as a soloist and for opera roles, Russell Braun performs regularly at the Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, l'Opéra de Paris, the San Diego Opera, the San Francisco Opera and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. Braun is a graduate of the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, and lives in Toronto. He is the son of famous Canadian baritone Victor Braun. He is married to pianist Carolyn Maule, with whom he performs regularly. Marina Poplavskaya (russian: Марина Поплавская, links=no; born September 1977) is a Russian operatic soprano. Her repertoire includes leading roles in operas of the Romantic era; she is particularly known for her performances in the operas of Verdi. Early life and training Born in Moscow and educated at the Ippolitov-Ivanov State Music Institute there with professor Peter Tarasov, she sang in the children's chorus of the Bolshoi Theatre from the age of 10. She became a soloist at Moscow's Novaya Opera Theatre, where she performed during 1996–98, and where she was mentored by its founder Yevgeny Kolobov.
