A mercenary, sometimes also known as a soldier of fortune or hired gun, is a private individual, particularly a soldier, that joins a military conflict for personal profit, is otherwise an outsider to the conflict, and is not a member of any other official military. Christoph Ernst Von Houwald
Christoph Ernst, Freiherr von Houwald (; 28 November 177828 January 1845) was a German dramatist and author. Life Houwald was born at Straupitz in Lower Lusatia, a son of the president of the district court of justice. He studied law at the university of Halle, and on completion of his academic studies returned home, married, and managed the family estates. In 1816 he afforded a home to his friend Karl Wilhelm Salice-Contessa (1777–1825), himself a poet, who had met with serious reverses of fortune; Contessa lived with Houwald, assisting and stimulating him in his literary work, for eight years. Götz Von Houwald
Götz Freiherr von Houwald (May 13, 1913 – August 16, 2001) was a German diplomat, historian, and ethnography, ethnographer. He was born in Poznań, Posen and died in Bonn. His full name was Maximilian Otto Gustav Albrecht Hubert Wilhelm Götz-Dieter Freiherr von Houwald. Götz-Dieter von Houwald's parents were Albrecht von Houwald, Albrecht Freiherr von Houwald and Helene Gräfin von Carmer. He completed his secondary education in 1934 at the Paul-Gerhardt-Gymnasium (Lübben), Paul-Gerhardt-Schule in Lübben. He went on to study law and journalism in Berlin. In 1940 he joined the German air force. In 1944 he was taken prisoner of war in north Africa. An unsuccessful escape attempt led to longer imprisonment. In 1948 he was released. After a short stint as a journalist, he entered the West German diplomatic service. In 1952 he was envoy to Peru and in 1961 to Ireland. Maišiagala ( pl, Mejszagoła) is a historic town in Vilnius district municipality, Lithuania. It is located about northwest of Vilnius city municipality near the Vilnius–Panevėžys highway. According to the 2021 census, it had a population of 1 562, a decrease from 1,636, registered at the 2011 census. History Maišiagala, first mentioned in 1254, is one of the earliest Lithuanian settlements. It had a large defensive castle, which was part of the defensive network around Vilnius against the Teutonic Knights. The wooden castle was destroyed in 1365, but was rebuilt. Ubald of Gubbio ( it, Ubaldo; la, Ubaldus; french: Ubalde; ca. 1084–1160) was a medieval bishop of Gubbio, in Umbria, today venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. Saint Ubaldo Day is still celebrated at the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo in Gubbio in his honor, as well as at Jessup, Pennsylvania. Ubald was baptized in the church of San Giovanni and named after his uncle. Ubald's parents died while he was still very young, and he was raised by his uncle, the bishop of Gubbio.
