Horst E. Brandt (17 January 1923 – 22 August 2009) was a German film director and cinematographer. His 1967 film ''Bread and Roses'' was entered into the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. ''Im Sonderauftrag'' (English-language title: ''Special Mission'') is an East German black-and-white film directed by Heinz Thiel. It was released in 1959. Plot In 1958, somewhere in the Baltic Sea, a People's Navy minesweeper commanded by Captain Fischer encounters a foreign boat. Its skipper is a man named Arendt, who has served with Fischer in the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. Fischer recalls how, in 1943, his superior Captain Lieutenant Wegner planned to defect to the Danish resistance and join the communists, but was arrested and sentenced to death. Fischer realizes that Arendt, one of the few who knew of Wegner's plans, was actually a Gestapo agent and betrayed him. Now, he understands that Arendt works for West Germany and intends to gather intelligence in the German Democratic Republic. Fischer foils his plans and the minesweeper returns to its mission. Solange Leben in mir ist (English: As Long As There's Life in Me) is a 1965 German biopic from the East German state-owned DEFA studios and director Günter Reisch following the life of the German Communist leader Karl Liebknecht during the first half of World War I. It is the first part in a two-part film series about Liebknecht directed by Reisch, starring Horst Schulze as Karl Liebknecht and Lyudmila Kasyanova as Sophie Liebknecht. It is followed by the 1972 sequel '' Trotz alledem!'' (English: In Spite of Everything!) which follows Liebknecht's life during the second half of the war and beyond. Plot summary The State Security Service detains the photographer Gwendoleit, who as courier was supposed to bring counterfeited documents and numberplates to Leipzig and moreover to get active there as photographer. Because the State Security Service neither knows, with whom Gwendoleit wants to meet in Leipzig, nor what the photo subject was, the security agent Alexander Berg takes up the identity of Gwendoleit, although he actually planned tripping to Oberhof for winter holidays. Plot Former East German engineer Erich Becker had been lured to West Germany by promises of a high reward. Now residing in Stockholm, he is recalled to serve as a spy in the East. He is to convince Dr. Jadenburg to flee from the GDR with the help of his daughter Hanna, who works for the West. While travelling on the train with Hanna, he is told that he is also to murder another agent who betrayed and now works for the Stasi. The traitor is revealed to be a former friend of Becker, Harry Korb. Becker cannot bring himself to kill Korb when they meet. Korb tells him that it was all a test to prove if he is reliable; since Becker failed, Korb murders him. The Stasi agents capture Korb soon after. Thomas is revealed to be a sharp critic of the government. Enraged, Walter leaves the house. Outside, he begins to inquire about his would-be son-in-law. After a clumsy voyage in the streets of the city, during which he encounters many absurd phenomena, he discovers that Thomas had a friend whose parents escaped to West Germany.
