Horsham Rugby Club is a rugby union club based at Horsham in West Sussex. The first XV plays in Regional 1 South Central, playing at the fifth level for the first time in its history. The club's women's 1st XV plays in NC1 South East (South). Horsham Rugby Club was founded in 1928 and when the league system was originated in 1987, the club had been placed in London 2 South East. The Sussex Rugby Football Union is the society responsible for rugby union in the county of Sussex, England and is one of the constituent bodies of the national Rugby Football Union. History The first rugby club in Sussex was Brighton, formed in 1868. Horsham is a market town on the upper reaches of the River Arun on the fringe of the Weald in West Sussex, England. The town is south south-west of London, north-west of Brighton and north-east of the county town of Chichester. Regional 2 South East, previously known as London 1 South, is an English level 6 rugby union regional league for rugby clubs in London and the south-east of England including sides from East Sussex, south Essex, south Greater London, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and West Sussex. When this division began in 1987 it was known as London 2 South, changing to London 1 South ahead of the 2009–10 season. It was the feeder league for London & South East Premier into which the champion team each season is promoted. The second-placed team entered a play-off against the runner-up of London 1 North. Each year all clubs in the division also take part in the RFU Intermediate Cup - a level 7 national competition.
