Edward Hornblower House And Barn
The Edward Hornblower House and Barn is a historic farmstead in Arlington, Massachusetts. The 2.5-story wood-frame house was built c. 1830, and was probably moved to its present location around 1850. At that time it also received stylistic modifications, giving it a more Italianate appearance. It was further modified in the 1870s, probably by financier Edward T. Hornblower, of the Boston brokerage firm Hornblower & Page (later Hornblower & Weeks) to add Renaissance Revival elements. A barn, estimated to date to about 1805, stands behind the house. The house and barn were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Lewis Hornblower
Lewis Hornblower (1823–1879) was a Liverpool architect, who along with French landscape architect Édouard André was responsible for the design of Sefton Park in Liverpool. Hornblower who had been involved with both Birkenhead Park, in Birkenhead, where he had designed the Grand Entrance, and Princes Park, in Liverpool, where he had been involved in architectural work on features such as gates, bridges and lodge houses. Hornblower and André's entry was successful from the twenty nine competition entries received by Liverpool Corporation from across the United Kingdom in 1867. Horatio Hornblower
Horatio Hornblower is a fictional officer in the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, the protagonist of a series of novels and stories by C. S. Forester. He later became the subject of films, radio and television programmes, and C. Northcote Parkinson elaborated a "biography" of him, ''The True Story of Horatio Hornblower''. Forester's series about Hornblower tales began with the novel ''The Happy Return'' (U.S. title ''Beat to Quarters''), published in 1937. Adam Yauch
Adam Nathaniel Yauch ( ; August 5, 1964 – May 4, 2012), better known under the stage name MCA, was an American rapper, bass player, filmmaker and a founding member of the hip hop group Beastie Boys. Besides his musical work, he also directed many of the band's music videos and did much of their promotional photography, often using the pseudonym Nathaniel Hörnblowér for such work. Yauch founded Oscilloscope Laboratories, an independent film production and distribution company based in New York City. Simon Hornblower, FBA (born 1949) is an English classicist and academic. He is Professor of Classics and Ancient History in the University of Oxford and senior research fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. Biography Born in 1949, he was educated at Eton College, where he was a King's Scholar; at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he took a first class in Part I of the Classical Tripos in 1969; and at Balliol College, Oxford, where he took first-class honours in '' Literae Humaniores'' in 1971 ( BA and hence subsequently MA) and a DPhil in 1978 with a thesis entitled '' Maussollos of Karia''. Jonathan Hornblower (1717)
Jonathan Hornblower (30 October 1717 – 7 December 1780) was an English pioneer of steam power, the son of Joseph Hornblower and brother of Josiah Hornblower, two fellow steam pioneers. Jonathan was born in Staffordshire on 30 October 1717, the eldest of the four children of steam pioneer Joseph and Rebecca (née Haywood) Hornblower. Joseph Hornblower was an installer of Newcomen steam engines in the Cornish mines and taught his children the same trade. Jonathan eventually took over from his father around 1740 and moved to live and work in Cornwall, where he built and installed Newcomen engines at several mines. He married Ann Carter of Broseley, Shropshire, a lawyer's daughter, on 16 July 1743 and fathered thirteen children, all given biblical names beginning with J.
