Hongmaogang Cultural Park
The Hongmaogang Cultural Park () is a cultural park in Siaogang District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Name ''Ang mo, Hongmao'' is a reference to the "red-haired" rulers of Dutch Formosa. History In 2007, the Hong Mao Gang Village was relocated from the original site in Siaogang District to make a way for Port of Kaohsiung, Port of Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Terminal. Using a small lot of land reserved, the cultural park was established there. It was opened in June 2012 after three years of renovation works. Architecture The park spans over an area of 3.42 hectares. It consists of Gaozi Tower Revolving Restaurant, exhibition hall, outdoor exhibition area, sky walk, pier and waiting Room and ocean front platform. Transportation The cultural park is accessible by bus from Siaogang metro station, Siaogang Station of Kaohsiung MRT. Siaogang District
Siaogang District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency () is a district of Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan. Before the merging of Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County in 2010, Siaogang was the southernmost district in Kaohsiung City. The second largest airport in Taiwan, Kaohsiung International Airport, is located in Siaogang. History Siaogang was developed during Dutch era. The Dutch built Ang Moh Harbor as an addition to Anping Harbor in Tainan. After the Dutch were defeated by Koxinga, they left Taiwan. Koxinga's government developed Taiwan as the last stronghold to revive the Ming Dynasty and prepare his troops to fight against the Qing dynasty. He sent one of his men, Wu Yanshang, to expand Siaogang. After the demise of Koxinga, his son and his grandson, the Qing managed to defeat the Kingdom of Tungning and annexed Taiwan. Dutch Formosa
The island of Taiwan, also commonly known as ''Formosa'', was partly under colonial rule by the Dutch Republic from 1624 to 1662 and from 1664 to 1668. In the context of the Age of Discovery, the Dutch East India Company established its presence on Formosa to trade with the Ming Empire in neighbouring China and Tokugawa shogunate in Japan, and also to interdict Portuguese and Spanish trade and colonial activities in East Asia. The Dutch were not universally welcomed, and uprisings by both aborigines and recent Han arrivals were quelled by the Dutch military on more than one occasion. With the rise of the Qing dynasty in the early 17th century, the Dutch East India Company cut ties with the Ming dynasty and allied with the Qing instead, in exchange for the right to unfettered access to their trade and shipping routes. Port Of Kaohsiung
The Port of Kaohsiung (POK; ) is the largest harbor in Taiwan, handling approximately 10.26 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) worth of cargo in 2015. The port is located in southern Taiwan, adjacent to Kaohsiung City, and surrounded by the city districts of Gushan, Yancheng, Lingya, Cianjhen, Siaogang, as well as Cijin. Kaohsiung Metro () is a rapid transit and light rail system covering the metropolitan area of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its rapid transit network is known as Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit or Kaohsiung MRT. Construction of the MRT started in October 2001. The MRT opened in 2008 and the Circular light rail in 2015.
